The question in my mind is when is he going to overcome this? Everyone goes thru slumps. Max is in a 0-4 slump. Does anyone think that's permanent? No. And it isn't for Bryce. He will eventually overcome this.  And if it continues with minimal improvement it will definitely affect his upcoming contract negotiations but so will the owners new found frugalness as we saw in last years free agent signings and non-signings.

Max' ERA in the last four games is under 3. Hes pitching well, just not amazing

I don't disagree with you.  I just don't know when he is going to bottom out, Maxs' 0-4 is more to a lack of run support rather than being ineffective and not throwing strikes like Gio. Last 6 starts he gave up 1 run once  three runs once and two runs four times. As folks say W-L is BS. The lack of offense will cost him the CY.

edit

If the lack of offense costs anyone the Cy Young, itll be deGrom

I have no idea why he doesnt try to bunt down the 3rd base line.  He would be on base every time with that shift.

With two strikes the Marlins played all four infielders on the right side all four at bats last night. Harper continued to swing for home runs every single time. Three of the ABs he had runners on base, just poke it to left. He wants to lead the league in home runs more than he wants to win.

If Harper, or most hitters could simply go opposite field whenever they want to, then there wouldn't be any teams ever shifting their defense. Obviously it isn't that easy.

He needs to step it up and make some adjustments tho.

Especially with Adams hitting behind him last night.  Adams is arguably our best left handed hitter right now (apologies to the 19 year old), so drop a bunt down to keep the line moving.  It's selfish baseball.

Because with power hitters teams are happy giving up singles to them. You want to keep them inside the park and not putting runs on the board with one swing.

On a related note, the personal hatred for Bryce Harper is a bit much. He wants to win. Even if you convince yourself he does not care about winning or losing, he knows better stats equal more money. I am frustrated with his play, but not mad at him personally.

No, it's not easy.  It takes work.  There are specific drills that help facilitate hitting the outside pitch to the opposite field.  I just wonder how much work Harper puts in on this sort of thing.  We've already heard that he doesn't pay attention to the hitting coach.  Yeah I know, the coach all of us want fired, but he's still here, so who is Harper listening to?  His Dad, for christ sake?

Maybe we can get Bryce to listen to this guy:  https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-pty-pty_email&hsimp=yhs-pty_email&hspart=pty&p=domingo+ayala#id=65&vid=9ed5948b126be2da6cfec8c0ddcfef67&action=view

Listening to his hitting coach wouldn't help, Long doesn't believe in hitting away from the shift he wants guys to hit line drives so it doesn't matter where the infielders stand.

They heard me last night and agreed that something had to change. I almost felt bad, but someone needed to speak up.

You were in the stands yelling at the team?

No, just Harper. (And once I told Martinez that Baker would have had a reliever warming up.)

FP didn't like folks calling out Royce for dogging it on that would-be triple of his, so he's taking a break from Twitter...  :hysterical:
