We’ve sent people to observe a Buffalo

Tell them we're pulling the plug and come on home because Pedro's a rock star now. ;)

What to trade for?  Nothing.  If we can't hit with the talent we have, nothing we add is going to help. Whoever we obtain no matter how good will instantly stop hitting and we will have wasted prospects.  Seriously, adding offense to this lineup is a waste of resources.  The lineup either starts living up to its potential ... or it doesn't.
Agreed. If they can find a back of the rotation starter for cheap, go grab him, but for the lineup the Nats have to go with what they have.  They aren't benching any of our top three outfielders, left side of the infield is locked, first has bodies, and they can't give up on Murphy yet. Maybe they can bring in another catcher, but not sure who makes sense at the needed price.

The Nationals have the pieces for the lineup. I think they need another pitcher.

Starting pitcher. Max is trustworthy and Hellickson might be OK. Gio and Tanner are shakey, at best. And who is the other starter?

But, yes, rent Wilson Ramos.

It's time to move on from Roark.

Tanner Roark needs a stint on the Jason Marquis DL™* sometime after the All Star Break

*For new posters, this is when a solid pitcher inexplicably suddenly sucks so they are sent to DL. Strasburg, Dan Haren, and almost every free agent bullpen Nats signing has spent time there.

This isnt sudden, nor inexplicable.  He hasn't been good since 2016.

Moreover, if the Nats expect to compete for the division going forward, Rizzo needs to get another top of the rotation starter. Now is as good a time as any

Has he gotten any better? He was stinking up the joint if I remember correctly.

Problem with that is TOTR guys are typically on the contending teams and not the teams looking to deal at the deadline, at least not this year. The only 2 out there might be deGrom and Syndergaard, neither of whom the Mets are trading here. Best realistic possibilities out there are the likes of Nathan Eovaldi, Kyle Gibson, a guy like Mike Fiers in Detroit has had a really good last 6 weeks and a solid season overall on a bad team. Not top of the rotation guys but would certainly help the current situation. Jays might look to move Happ but he's been lit up his last 2 outings and wildly inconsistent since early May.

None of those help us. Chris Archer, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Garrett Richard's....

These are the guys they need to target.

Best would be this year's Verlander, if there is one. Assuming there is not, two respectable starters would allow the Nats to forget Gio and Roark. Those guys define negative WAR, or "Losses Above Replacement", LAR.

Rays are looking at Nats farm system. Nats are looking at Ramos.

We are gonna get a catcher.

The closest youd get is Cole Hamels.

They have other players we could use

Kieboom, Fedde, Roark, and one of Reed/Kieboom/Severini for Archer and Wilson

Nats are not moving Kieboom for a rental catcher like Ramos. Realmuto, maybe, but not Ramos.

Ramos is the type of guy who gets moved for a couple low level prospects for salary relief. Giving Kieboom for him would be giving more up for him this time than when the Nats gave up Capps for him seven years ago, which admittedly was a major steal.

You're moving Keiboom for Archer

Nats as buyers?  Now that’s funny. They should be unloading guys before they have the worst team money can buy.

Two. Gio and Tanner have to go. Maybe Roark belongs on the DL for can't-throw-strikes-itis. Then a generous rehab. But Gio seems lost.

Agreed on lineup - stand pat unless you can get Wilson for relatively cheap.  Real need is a very solid number three starter and a healthy strasburg.

The Rays also have Eovaldi on an expiring contract, so they may move him as well.  He's put up a few solid starts in a row since coming back from injury.

Sounds like the Pirates are in sell mode, now. Should we be looking at Cervelli over Ramos? I still think we want to see what Wieters has before we move on a catcher, though.
