Bumgarner would definitely be a great pick-up, but we probably don't have the pieces to get the deal done, and even if we did, that's not entirely Rizzo's style. He tends to go for the under-the-radar pick who may not be the top guy but is still really good, like Doolittle, Melancon, and Kendrick.   Someone like Sean Sean Manaea or Jose Berrios.
Those two would cost more than Bumgarner.

And I do think we have the pieces to get it done, I just don't think people would like to give them all up.

Robles isnt enough to get Snell. You're going to have to put together a Sale-like package for him. There's no way the Ray's take so little for him.
consider that for Sale it was Moncada and Kopech, plus I think another decent prospect, yes, Snell will cost more than Robles.  I don't think we have a second Kopech-level prospect. Snell =/= Sale at this point, but he'll be darn expensive.

Eovaldi should not cost the farm and he's been lights out his last 3 starts.  Pure rental, but he's a decent patch that doesn't require stripping the system.

And he is already familiar with our future-and-former catcher. They can help each other pack for the move.

He is also a guy we could re-sign this offseason.

Honestly, he's been my top target for weeks. Plus, he's an awesome guy and would be fun to root for.

We most definitely have the pieces to get the deal done. The question is does Rizzo want to spend them

Rizzo was willing to deal Robles for Sale. Bumgarner is similarly capable, and has a much more impressive resume.

Garrett Richards left todays game in the 3rd inning with an apparent injury. His velo had suddenly dropped. He's probably off the table now.

:lmao:

Realmuto is on pace for 7 WAR in a park that is god awful for hitters. Take him out of there and his    .329/.393/.592 away split becomes even more valuable.

Since Marlins Park opened in 2012 the Marlins have had:
A higher batting average at home 3 years
A lower batting average at home 2 years
The same batting average home and away 1 year
Marlins Park is only bad for Home Runs. It is a big park and many balls drop in for hits that would be outs in other parks.
Realmuto hits better away, Stanton's number were almost identical home/away. Ozuna was better at home.

I think we may be losing sight of an important factor...

Rizzo has long said that he want's the team to be competitive every year.  While he's also said that winning Division Championships was not enough, he's never gonna go for broke in any one season...
And considering all the young pieces right now in this organization and Scherzer/Strasburg still locked up for years, they shouldn't begin going all in this season.

Except that the division is going to be much more competitive going forward, and it's unlikely that Scherzer will maintain this level of performance over the next two or three seasons, nor should Strasburg be expected to stay healthy and entire season.

They need, at a minimum, another top 3 rotation starter going forward. And no, it' isn't Gio anymore. And it doesn't look like Fedde is that guy.

Strasburg is only under contract through 2019 unless he declines or gets seriously injured

He is a creature of habit who doesn't like the drama he'd probably face if he went on the FA market.   Mrs Strasburg loves this area and wants about 5 Strasbabies.  Stras also feels a huge sense of loyalty after the way he was handled in 2012.  He doesn't always agree with having to do rehab stints or getting lifted at the first sign of trouble, but he appreciates that the team always prioritizes his health.  He may try to negotiate for a bit more money but he's not walking (and even another round of salary talks may be too much drama for him, especially considering how long some FA pitchers lingered on last year's market).

I think he’ll be worth more than 4 years $90 million if he stays relatively healthy and preforms similiarly to how he has. He didn’t negotiate for opt outs not to use them. There really doesn’t have to be in season drama - he can say how happy he is and that he loves it here and that he has a long term deal and still opt out when the season is over

This is all speculation, honestly, unless you are so close with him to know all this.

Well, that Mrs. Strasburg wants five little Strasburgs sounds to me like inside information.

I guess we can keep this and just talk about the prospects we want to get for Herrera, Rendon, and Turner?

No. I dont want anyone that may have learned anything from Zimmerman, Werth, or Harper. All they've learned is how to collapse under pressure. Dump them, their value will never be higher

The goal should be to load this team up with a ton of talent so that when Trout hits the market, you can pay a crap ton of cash to get him
