Damn, Eovaldi just hit 100mph on Mike Trout.

And Trout is 2 for 2

When you suffer an anxiety attack about the Nats holding on for the division title, just remember the team that's chasing them really sucks.

You get it...we just suck a little less...

The Division is not the goal...we don't get some things ironed out and we will be faced with a repeat of 2012.  Nobody wants that.

Measured by won/lost percentage we are the best team in the National League.  Does the whole league "suck"?

By fangraph odds, we are at 18.6% probability of WINNING THE WORLD SERIES. The next best in the NL is the Dodgers, at 11.4.  Best in AL is 12.9.

I think we're ok.

seeing something like "18.6% probability of WINNING THE WORLD SERIES" reminds me of the joke about economists having a sense of humor, the proof being that they use decimal points.

I don't think it's a lock, but that's what makes it all fun.  I enjoy the ride, if it were a lock I might not pay as much attention.   We could very well get swept by the Mariners and Dodgers while the Braves win five games, and then it's a race again. In which case I will watch with increased intensity.

7 games up, best record in the NL, rotation is killer, offense has been hot. Yeah we're terrible and btw fire the manager.

Read last night's game thread. All it takes is a couple of losses and some are in full Panic Monkey mode.

I think it's a foregone conclusion at this point, but is it only because the Barves are worse than we expected?

Does it matter? The objective is to get in. Also, I think the Braves have somewhat overachieved relative to the preseason expectations after they had to stopgap with Harang and Santana. I think in the end, they'll be right about where most people expected they would end up.

Somebody posted a couple days ago that on Fox Sports Gabe Kapler called us the best team in the NL, and then his studio mate, Frank Thomas, said he was unimpressed because we were barely beating bad teams.  Well yesterday I saw a segment where CJ Nitkowski was again talking about how well positioned the Nats are, and once again Frank Thomas was actually smirking as Nitkowski was talking.  The host then said to Frank, "I can tell by your reaction that you are not buying the Nationals."  Thomas went on to say the Nats are known for playing well in August and then burning out in September.  He said he has seen teams peak too soon and that is what we are doing.  He finished by saying he expects the Braves to catch us and win the division."  We will see about that Frank.
Frank Thomas is smirking at our series in Philly, and has that ominous, knowing laugh about our long flight and series' against Sea and LAD.

Sure, he remembers that "long history" of the Nats peaking in August and flaming out in September--say what Frank??

The good thing is that it doesn't matter what the freak they think and say. The games are played on the field and what they say has no impact on the outcome.

Message board jinx uterances though ARE widely believed to influence outcomes.
