Hey guys. This pennant race just got really personal for me. When I lived in Charlotte I met a coworker there, his name was big Mike and he had recently moved to NC from DC. I got really close to him because he was the only other Nats fan  I had knew in NC. We talked constantly about the Nats and were on shift together the night we clinched. We looked like idiots dancing around the breakroom. The day after game 5 he told me that was the first time he had cried in years. he was 51 years old and he told me all he wanted was to live long enough to see the nats play in the world series. I just found out that he died in November . We had stayed in touch by text and stuff all last season but I had been trying to reach him this season and never heard from him. Now I know why. he was the guy who introduced me to this forum and told me to stop by and visit, I would like it here. When I moved away he gave me this great nats flag to hang outside my new house and its been hanging every day since spring training started. I am so incerdibly sad that he never got to see them play in the world series and more than ever I want them to get there this year now... for BIG MIKE

Yeah he was but I do not know his screen name. he wouldnt tell me he said I had to figure it out. I just know his real name, that he was born in DC and lived there for many years until recently moving to the Carolinas..

Sorry guys. I did not mean to be the face of doom and gloom and kill the thread. I'm just a little bummed today and the circumstances surrounding his death make it much more difficult for me to take.. and since there is a chance some of you conversed with him from time to time, it felt like a good place to vent.

Thanks. it just pisses me off because he did not have to die. After I found out he had passed I did some internet digging and pulled all the archived articles about his death. His car broke down and not sure why but he got out of the car and went walking. He went into a diabetic coma and ended up dying alone in the bushes outside of winthrop university. People were standing around and no one went to see if they could help him. he was a large black man passed out in the bushes and people assumed he was drunk and called the police. police arrived and realized it was a medical emergency. One of the articles said that if he had been given first aid sooner he had a chance to survive but too much time had passed. I wont even go off on that rant. I just really want this season to be THE SEASON. In honor of my friend.

Vicki - I'm so sorry about your friend, and so sorry about the circumstances as well.  He would have loved the Nats ride this year.  Enjoy it all the more for him.

Yes!!!. Carolina Nats Fan has to be him. His name was Mike, he was in his 50's and he lived in Rock Hill sc. We worked at the Cracker Barrel in Fort Mill sc together. I moved away in November 2012 and he got a new job in 2013. He may have not posted alot but I can tell you he lurked here constantly. I have been here for over 2 years I just never posted until recently. he told me to come here that I would really enjoy it.

WOW.. you found him. Why do these little things keep making me increasingly sad. well FWIW guys he said this was the best  Nats forum around...

Sorry for this happening, Vicki, but I hope the sleuthing of the ID here makes Mike still present for you.  You can look up a person's posts in his profile if you are so inclined.

Thanks to all of you for your support.. And for listening. What I really think we should do now is get back to the baseball and winning this thing for Mike.

What I really need tonight is

1- get to 8 1/2 up on the Braves in the standings.

2- plunk a Philly just for the hell of it

3- Bryce steals home to commemorate Cole Hammels lack of appreciation night.

Yep its gonna take a lot of baseball to heal these wounds but that would get me on the way....

I think in the end, you will be very surprised who Tyler Durden is. You won't see it coming.

Yeah but first you'd have to get to one of his posts, right?  So for CarolinaNatsFan or Tyler Durdin, we don't readily have a post.

I vaguely recall Durdin, as a poster who asked very infantile, almost unintelligible questions. I always thought he was a troll. But I may have him confused with someone else.

Man... we gotta win it all for him. Hope that solving that little mystery helps a tiny bit, somehow.

Looking through the member list trying to find Mike was a very sad experience. I found one old Nats fan who said he grew up watching the Senators as a kid in the 40s. That user posted several times per day and then, suddenly, one day he never logged in again. In the internet age, you never really think about someone on a discussion board dying. They just "don't post anymore".
