Bust are guys who not only don't pan out, but end up being awful players. Like, Ryan Leaf was a bust. Kwame Brown was a bust.

Harper is nowhere near bust land. At worst he's a mild disappointment so far but he's like, barely scratched the surface of the start of his career.
How about Andrew Miller? Effective reliever, yes, but not at all what was expected. Luke Hochevar too.

It took Ian Desmond 8 years to contribute decently.  Started in the minors in 2004.

Team ranking in the past 30 days:

Hits - 3rd.
Homers - 1st.
RBIs - Tied for 3rd.
Batting average among people with more than 50 Plate Appearances - 3rd. (Lobaton and Frandsen were better with less than 35 each).
Slugging - 3rd.
OPS - 3rd.

What do you want from him?  On a team as stacked as ours with a player as young as him, this is what you want.

Sure, it's only over the past 30 days, but after the injury and the slow start coming back, I'll take it.

And I only care about one of them
That's fine, but doesn't change the fact that Optics wasn't wrong.

Couldn't you put Clippard in that category?

i think you insult busts by lumping them in the same category as Kwame.

Clippard was never that highly touted.

Slate won't be satisfied until Harper tears a labrum.  :stir:

Wow, did you see that homerun he hit off of Clayton freaking Kershaw? This guy sucks... Should have sent him down when we had the chance...

That's a power surge, not a tear.

A tear would be a sustained period hitting above the major league record for batting average in the modern era. Let's call that .400

Harper has 53 career home runs despite missing large parts of two seasons.  If he hits 47 between now and the end of next year, and ends the year with 100 career home runs, he'd be just the 4th player in MLB history to reach 100 before turning 23.  The others are Mel Ott, Tony Conigliaro, and Eddie Mathews.  (Trout has 93 and is already 23).

harper did post similar numbers in his 2 first seasons. around 20 hrs and 50-60 rbi's ish but we all know he can  hit for better numbers then that. I think he can hit 40 in a season

Where is he this game? freaking no where. All he does is homer in games that don't matter.

he has 2 base hits and while i know he hasn't been clutch he homered off Kershaw, the best pitcher in baseball. Give him a break for now. If he adds more consistency he will be a good one, he is still learning
