Bryce Harper since the ASB .280/.360/.433. That is a guy whose swing is in shambles.

That's ok. But a below .800 OPS is nothing to crow about.

We should trade him. His swing is a mess. He can't stay off the DL. He sucks.

I hope that's sarcasm.

As F.P. has been saying if Harper gets hot. It's over.

I think we all know Harper has been a disappointment so far this year.  But you know what? He is still the one guy whose AB you don't want to miss.

I'll take a .360 OBP from just about anyone and say that is good.  Given the awful looking Ks earlier in the year, maybe that is the first sign he's comfortable again at the plate.  As for the low OPS, sure, not what I'd call middle of the order bat, but he hit a couple of homers this week, I think, and showing signs of the power coming back.  I'll guess that .433, which includes half of July, will be lower than his August SLG at the end of the month.

His babip is 50 points higher than 2013, 40 than 2012. If it drops, the obp will come down too

I think so too but so far this month it's .415...although he just turned it on recently.

Of course, you just need stats to tell you if he actually IS better.

How long do you think we should send him down for?

Probably the rest of the season. Then look to trade him in the offseason.

If he can stay healthy he still has to overcome the problem between the ears. This is his biggest problem by far. More terrible base running lately. I like that he was pinch hit for last night. He has no concept of the meaning of humility. When he didn't run out the groundball and got benched he did the same thing AGAIN against the Angels in the very next series twice! He barely was able to make it to first on the Pujols error because of it. Also barely made it to second on the dropped fly ball in left center. On both of these he started out with a slow trot until seeing the fielding errors.  All of us that played ball learned to run out EVERYTHING at least by high school. The ones that still did not are the primadonna  head cases.........like Harper. His chances of long term success are 50/50 as I see it. It ALL depends on between the ears........and not getting injured of course. There is no doubt he has the skills.

I think Harper is not real bright and in particular lacks baseball instincts.  I do NOT think he is lazy or is a prima donna.   Recall how he hustled when he first came up.  That enthusiasm he showed lasted until little by little he became worn down, by injury, and yes frankly by running too hard when there was no reason to.   I think that what you are mistaking for laziness is simply aches and pains and an effort to conserve resources for when they are needed.

I respectfully disagree. He knows the game and is a student of the game. When he first came up he really worked counts and hustled EVERYTHING. Now he is frustrated and has reverted to spoiled brat primadonna  behavior in my opinion. He has been on touring teams since he was 9 years old. Nobody tosses their helmet or cusses more than him. I never thought it was laziness either its behavior that primafdonna/headcases revert to when things don't go their way. I hope I am wrong but I don't think so.
