I went to the game tonight, and have not been able to find any replay of the ball Harper missed, so I have only seen it live. Live, it looked to me like he was lost on the play and misplayed it, but I'd like to hear from others who had the benefit of seeing it on TV and seeing replays.

Ray in my estimation he slightly misjudged the ball but the ball was hit well and he had to make the play on the run and over his head. The ball did hit his wrist as he hesitated at the last second when he realized he had slightly over ran the play. You can make a case that you should expect him to make the play or that you need him to make the play but it would've been a heck of a catch to make. To me, it's a double all the way.

But this is the guy who fancies himself to be a centerfielder -- who essentially threw Span under the bus in order to make that point. I can't imagine Span not making that play.

Thanks.

I can't imagine Soriano's 5 year old son not making that play...

Span would have run to the warning track, turned around, and caught it. IMHO. Span makes hard plays look easy. Bryce, not so much.

I think Harper should have made the play.  Nothing's going right for the person I had such hopes for.

As JW said...you play your defensive liabilities in left field...

I do find it odd that he is a defensive liability in LF but quite decent in CF.

Pop quiz:  How many RBIs did Bryce Harper have in the month of July?

Two.

He's not a defensive liability in LF. He just tries to take more than the game is giving.

I still think he'd be great at 1B. He wants to be involved in every play. If you are going to give in to his whims, put him at first.

christ.  at least when he was hurt, there was the myth of the decent baseball player waiting to get healed, and waiting to come back.  'rendon' outshines him so very much, and in so very many ways.  if it wasn't for the hype of 'harper', and for the apathy of anything else on this team, it would be interesting to see the hype 'rendon' deserves...

He's not being helped playing in the majors.  He needs work.   He needs to be fixed because he's broken right now.

His at bats are as predictable as Espinosa's.

most of you will bash me for this but the best thing right now for Harp is to go down to aa or aaa and get his swing fixed. it is painful watching him second guess himself every single at bat. the pressure is getting to him and i don't think he will get better here.

He was in Double A and Triple A. He was mashing. The fix needs to be here. He's a young player working through a slump. And despite that, he's still got an OBP of .333. Strong drive to the opposite field last night. He's getting there.

He's only at 97 AB's so THERE ARE STILL 3 AB's LEFT! He'll go on a tear beginning Thursday.

Plus don't forget, HE'S ONLY 21!

To put that in perspective, Javier Baez is 21 and just now making his debut.

The thing that sucks most is you can tell he has no confidence at the plate right now.  Swinging on the first pitch every time just hoping he gets a fastball.  And he's even having trouble turning over the fastballs much like Ramos has this season.  I think he's gotta start taking the Span route for a bit, not swinging as hard and letting it come to him.

great, he's young and learning, and by the time he's polished we'll get a year or two and maybe a thank you letter from the dodgers/yankees for starting the service time clock so early

And? That's baseball. We also used him to get to our first playoff appearance in like 30+ years.
