A young arm for the team with Lucas Giolito and AJ Cole in the wings. Yes, that's an even trade for the Nationals' top 2 or 3 position player in 2012 and 2013.

the scout is quoted in BP, so I'm guessing it's not fictional. The trade part is utter garbage, but I wonder if there is any validity tto the part about his swing being all screwed up

We're providing these quotes to give the perspective that a lot of people in the industry have extremely different and varying thoughts on players. That's the goal. This isn't an article on our opinion or the value of Harper. It's to show what others in the business think. And for what it's worth, this particular individual wasn't the only one who didn't have a glowing review of Bryce. I caution people too...there's a lot more information people "in" the game know than the public or even us at BP. I'm pretty sure nobody expected a number of the guys at the deadline to be dealt either (like Cespedes), but they were.

I still think the trade part is absurd, but I wonder about the take on his swing

It's absurd to think that Harper's swing won't recover to what he was doing in early 2013. So what if it looks bad now? He snapped a tendon in his thumb; that swing will come back. I'll trust Joey Votto over anono-scout.

Told you guys that league insiders/scouts are seeing that Harper is not that good right now... hate to say I told you so but I did tell you so. Good to know I'm not crazy and the homers here are just that - not objective - just homers.
