Does Toronto have anything they'd give up? They are looking to rebuild younger/cheaper, and Dana Brown is there now.

Pitching? To throw a name out there, Matt Garza was a Super 2 this year and is getting $3.35m. They have Price, Davis, Shields, Niemann, Hellickson, and Sonnanstine, with more on the way in the minors. Shields is signed for next year at $4.25m and has 2 team options. Garza will likely cost more next year. The rest are cheap or, in Price's case, working off original contracts. My guess is Garza would be the first one they'd shop. I have no idea what we could offer.

Toronto's starters are all young and cheap. I would not call Dustin McGowan a #1, but he is out of options and coming off an injury.

Maybe Chicago WS - Peavy has a huge contract.

Don't know what the Rockies have on the way, but Aaron Cook fits the profile of the Nats groundball pitchers.

Those are with minimal research.

Just trying to figure out who could be the target. I don't think I've heard that any of these guys are on the market, although there have been insinuations about Garza being a bad attitude guy (out of shape all last year, hard to coach)

Miller is a good caution about what can happen with can't miss college kids. He was so good he got the call up at the end of his draft year and I think there was serious talk about him making the playoff bullpen. Turns out the #2 guy (Daniel Bard) on that NC team might have the better pro career.

Regarding Desmond, the news there is this 25th man utility thing they were talking about is off the table. Storen is news, but given this bullpen, prudent.

Still think Houston would be the likely landing spot for Guz, but Manzella has hit a bit this spring so they may be inclined to give him a shot.

Miller was called up because it was written into his contract. Miller is more an indictment against the Marlins ownership. They didn't want to pay him millions to play in the minors.

That's really not saying much, except that for those of you who wanted him to stay on the 25 man as a utility player, those hopes are quashed.

Did anyone want him up as a utility player? I thought most everyone was put off my the idea of him bumping around at corner OF positions.

They'll showcase Guzman and hope he starts hot and someone is interested.

Nobody linked the Nats to Miller.

I doubt he qualifies as a "top starter."

1) Nats are trying for a starter

2) Marlins probably wanting to move Miller

3) Nats and Marlins have a bit of a trade history

Agree on the pipe dream, but the idea of getting a top starter is a pipe dream, I/M/O. Read the same Cafardo piece, which says Sonnanstine is 4th/5th starter for most teams. here, a solid #2 - #3

The Fish are trying to deal Miller away if they can find a GM dumber than Beinfest. The Marlins rotation will be all righties as Miller and West are competing for who can miss the plate with the greatest distance. Miller missed by about 12 feet the other day, expanding his lead. Paulino was catching and didn't even get out of his squat, instead just reaching back over his shoulder for another ball like it was any every-day occurrence. St Claire has Miller up to 10.8 BB/9 IP.
