It's to build him up in trade talks. They're going to DL him for the year and ignore him till he goes away.

At least I hope so.

Interesting.  Not sure how I missed that.

Still, my original point stands.  There's no call for histrionics because of one decision that we might not know the full reasoning behind.

edit - also what Kevrock said.

2 rotation spots left for Martin, Stammen, Olsen, and Livo to fight out for.

I haven't felt that Martin or Stammen are getting a fair shot. They need more innings to prove just how superior they are to bums Olsen and Livo.
JD Martin is getting freaked. He deserves a spot over Livan!!

Just a guess - Martin is going to go to AAA mostly because he has options.  Perhaps even Stammen.  They really think they are better off with Livo on a long leash for 2 months before the Detwiler / Wang / Strasburg crew gets back.  I would have thought the prospect of reinforcements would have led them to say, "we can try these younger guys who were pretty good last year and not get burned if they don't show up."

But honestly, I'm not sure I've been in synch with any of the roster moves they are making. I keep on getting surprised.  not that that is a bad thing.  I'd expect these guys to be playing contract bridge on roster strategy while I am at fish level.

Anyone in Florida for the games this week?  I'm parachuting in for the day tomorrow to see the game against the Tigers.

I would release Olsen before March 31 to save the cash. I cannot see him amounting to anything this year. What you saw last year with him is what you get. He will get rocked more often than not.

Even though it was completely out of character with his entire career up to that point?  The guy gets hurt for the first time and suddenly YOU think he can't pitch.  Thank God we have intelligent baseball people running the ship these days.

I really don't have much issue with Guz offensively, it's in the field where he's been a killer.

A guy who takes no walks, works no counts, doesn't advance runners and has no power and you don't have much issue with him offensively?  He's a #8 hitter and nothing more (and maybe a #9 with a good hitting pitcher).

 QFT

He's quickly becoming one of the worst everyday offensive guys in all of the bigs.  We're talking Nick Punto range with his second half numbers.

According to Ladson, Taveras now has a shot to platoon with Harris in RF.

Hopefully its more of a suggestion rather than an actual plan.

He's one of the most hot/cold offensive players in baseball.  He'll be solar hot for a week and half and then he'll go 1 for 30.  Whatever his batting average is,  he always looks like he's hitting much better or much worse than that, depending on what streak he's on at that given moment.

And when he's cold, it's BRUTAL to watch!

Hopefully Guz is "solar hot" for the first couple weeks and another team's starting SS goes down with an injury.

It would be hilarious that this team uses him as a number two hitter if I didn't have to watch it.

Can't we assign Batista to Minor League Camp?

I have a feeling he'd be a cut rather than a reassignment. I'm sure he's been around long enough to have the seniority to decline anything he doesn't want.

We've got 11 guys who still need to get cut.  There's still time.

He signed a minor league deal.

The chosen one had another spectacular performance:

4 1/3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 9 K 79 pitches, 46 Strikes

Send him to Cooperstown now.

Could you imagine Riggs batting Taveras leadoff and Guz second on a day Nyjer needed a break?

I think the internet baseball community would implode.

Nah, just here.  No one else cares about the lowly Nationals.

What?  How can he get into Cooperstown?

The lowly Nationals will only manage to give him enough run support that he will win 5 games per season for at least the first six years of his career.  No way will he make the HoF.

That is what you believe, right?

Strasburg's bat is good enough to produce 1 run per game. If he goes 30-1 every season while the rest of the Nats win 35 games, he has a good shot at Cooperstown.

Wang had some shoulder soreness today so he skipped his bullpen.

Will try again Friday.
