Has Collin returned to the Drop & Drive mechanics?

Just because things aren't be written about someone doesn't mean they are not in the mix. Just like MCCatty said in a quote earlier about that same comment... " Maybe they aren't asking the right questions about somebody."
Yes indeed Duncan was taking a lot of defensive first base action while I was down there.  The best drill I saw was for catchers. They had the pitching machine set up to throw 2 " Foul balls" up about 3 seconds apart and the guys tried to catch one ball after the other ball.  That was really funny to see and they did it only a couple of times successfully. It looked really hard to do because of balance issues by always looking up and moving around. They were really dizzy! Great drill.   Man, did Norris look good and really big! Good for the future Nat. He would hang onto his mask until the last moment and throw that thing so hard out of the way so he didn't trip over it. Great fundamentals. I learned a lot of little things at camp that if I was still coaching little league I would use.

Loving these reports spinman!

If I had to pick the 12 pitchers who would break from camp in April after getting a 3 day view of them they would be... in no particular order.
Lannan, Marquis, Chico, Balester, Mock, Clippard, Bergmann, Stammen, Everyday Eddie, Capps (looked really good and throws a heavy ball and he was one of the nicest guys to talk with)  Bruney, Burnett
I thought I read that Tyler Walker had a lock?

I'd be surprised if Chico, Mock, Balester, and Bergmann all made the OD roster. Mock or Bergmann are my picks for non-tender/AAA.

I watched Bergmann pitch for years, and Mock last year. I question their mental game. Tyler Walker has a long history of major league success.

Well, Hernandez isn't on that list either, and I would be shocked if he didn't come north, regardless of what happens in ST. I figure Bergmann will end up in the bullpen. And I figure if Mock nabs a spot in the rotation, and Olsen is healthy, and/or Chico really shows he his back to AZ form, that there will be limited space for some guys. It's one of those good problems to have for the organization, but it is tougher for the guys on the bubble. I've been high on Balester since I saw him in ST back in 2008. He had the cheese and his curveball was sick. It seemed it would all come down to a combination of a third pitch, keeing the ball down, and being able to work as effectively out of the stretch. He has stuff I would like to at least be able to tap out of the bullpen, and I'd like to see him get more work against big leaguers at this point.

But most of the decisions will end up being the smart baseball moves. As long as you are bringing a veteran like Hernandez north and not a DCab, it comes down to options. Injuries are inevitable, and trades are always possible. The guys with options will be on the shuttle. They need to focus on taking advantage of the regular work until they are called upon.

My assesment was just from being at ST for 3 days.  The feeling is way different this year at ST.  I think we could win 70 plus games this year. Collin, Clippard, Eddie all looked real good to me.
 We will see.
Nice article about Nyger's surf board! ;)

Not as much drop but lots of drive! He really looks good! He is the sleeper of the camp right now. He and Chico. Chico pounds the zone. The Nats are in a better situation than I have seen in  the past three years. Should be a good year.

Shoeshine your assesment is absolutely correct. Rizzo has made it clear though that he wants to bring the best 12 guys to DC in April and Straburg will be up in June. The #3-5 staters will have their work cut out for them as one of them will be replaced by Strasburg in June. Yes, injuries and just pitching bad by other guys will weigh into it.
Balester, Stammen, Mock, Chico I am sure understand their roles on the team and they need to take advantage of every opportunity as it arises. Opportunity knocks on Thursday!!!

I think everyone who can should go to ST for 3 days and see what its all about. You will see the coaches as "Teachers" and the players  doing the stuff all little leaguers do when they start their first practices. Fundamentals.

I could fill up the vent thread with how much I just spent on baby stuff. If you want to start the charity to Send A Fan to Viera, Spinman, I'm all for it, because you are one heck of a fundraiser

Thats so funny you would say that. I am working on something for next years ST with that type of flavor associated with it. I work with many charitable people so we will see what happens. Anyway, its good to be a Nats fan!

I must have some personality flaw, because I was quite hopeful for this season but the more I see other people getting hopeful the more discourged I feel. I really hope going to the ballpark is a pleasure again this season and not the pure torture it was last year.

No matter how much "spin" we put on ST right now, you are sort of right. Until proven otherwise on the field of battle, this is still a last place team with a whole lot of question marks. But hopeful question marks.

Last ST was supposed to have a "new attitude" too, but we all know how that turned out: Ryan Wagner, Jason Bergmann and Scott Olsen standing around talking about how this guy Strasburg drinks gasoline and the regular season was a horror show. We can only hope for the best and since it is only ST, I think we can get away with being just a little selfishly hopeful.

In three days I leave for Viera myself. Ugh, I hate Wednesdays. So close, yet so far.

I want to go down there and go to Padrino's in Orlando and just drive around and visit various ballparks and just sit out in the warmth and watch baseball. I can't wait to be sweeting my ass off in the DC humidity and watching baseball. Every day that it gets closer it seems further away.
