Harris is already signed for next year. There is no room for him and Wynn on this team.

It's not like Harris is a huge source of power either. Of the two, Winn is the better player, neither would be counted on for huge contributions, they'd be role players. If you get a chance to upgrade the position, it can do nothing but help. Winn is better in every statistical category than Harris both for his career and last year.

Harris is also tradeable and could be included as a decent piece in a trade somewhere down the line. Just because he's signed doesn't mean he's going to be here when ST opens. Any opportunity to upgrade any position should be explored. Don't get too attached to role-players or mediocre relievers.

Gotcha, thanks. There's a local sports talk show I listen to and the main host of the show is a big Cubs fan, I'd love to hear him whine about losing out to the Nats for FA. That would almost make it worth it for just that reason alone.

Willie Harris has 20 HRs over the last two season (690 ABs).

Randy Winn has 12 HRs over the last two seasons (1,136 ABs).

Winn made almost $10 Million last year. Harris made $1.5 Million.

What a stupid move it would be to sign Winn. Total waste. Harris is younger, cheaper, and better.

I stepped away from baseball for 15 years, when I left I was a Cubs fan, but now I find myself attracted to the Nats, so I'm hoping the Nats sign Capps too.

I'm a Saints fan, I don't mind the struggles.

So, we're gonna quibble over 8 HR's over 2 years? Winn has a better BA, OBP and Fielding % over that time frame. Do you really think Winn's going to be signed for $5 mil?

look at the number of ABs. Harris has 8 more HRs in 446 less ABs.

Winn is not needed on this team period.

Harris would put up better overall numbers if he got the luxury of playing every day like Winn.

The last thing we need to do is sign an over the hill bum like Winn. Pitching pitching pitching.

They're the same player with Winn being a bit better defender. Good OBP guys will little power and decent base stealers. Don't see any discernible difference.

The guy is the same player, albeit older and slightly better in the field, as Harris. How is that an over the hill bum?

He's durable. Not too old. Can help guide our young starters.

We agree, more or less, that he is what he is. He would serve a purpose here. The "not a fan" comment is that I don't think he's significantly above average, which he was built up to be after 2005 when he signed a big contract. I'd object to a Gil Meche / Carlos Silva contract for that type of guy, but 200 innings of average performance has value.

Maybe, but Harris has never been an everyday player, and there's probably a reason for that. If they're going after Winn, look for a reciprocal move with Harris or someone. I don't think it's just as simple as signing him for the sake of signing him.

Winn is older and coming off of bad offensive year (OPS .671)

2009 / 2008 / 2007 / James 2010 projection:

Randy Winn - OBP .318 / .363/ .353 / .337; SLG .353 /.426 /.445 /.389
Willie Harris - OBP .364 /.344 / .349 / .348; SLG .393 / .417 / .392 / .367

I think James is way low on Harris's power after his last 3 seasons. I'm guessing Marcel the Monkey would think Harris is better offensively too.

Defensively, Winn isn't a CF any more but Harris was not great shakes last year there, either. Winn is an RF, and Harris is an LF. Both are outstanding in their respective corners. I'd give an edge to Winn as an RF.

Why buy Winn's decline when you have Harris under contract? wouldn't we be better of with Jerry Owens as our 5th OF since he can field CF and can run?

He only had 23 starts and 130 IP last year. Missed a month from mid-July to mid-August and then shut it down at the end of August.

Calero, Howry, Beimel and Oliver are all relievers I'd like to see the Nats try and acquire.

Again, because there's probably something else afoot with this move. A trade may be iminent with Harris involved or something like that.
