He's supposedly not close to Strasburg in ML readiness.  WHen he throws hard, ie 96+, he gets wild.

MLBtraderumors:

Quote
Rosenthal and his cohort Jon Paul Morosi also note that the Mets have interest in Jason Marquis and Joel Pineiro, but may face some competition from division rivals Washington.  Rosenthal and Morosi say the Nationals want to add two pitchers, with at least one being a No. 2 starter, and the Nats are also looking at Jon Garland.

Rizzo is still at it apparently.

How about Kelvim Escobar? Isn't he worth a major league deal? You'd have to think those kinds of players would sign with the Nats in a jiffy.

1 start since 07.  Just how healthy is he?  A minor league deal with a spring invite might be a good idea.

Maxwell doesn't have the arm for right.

We may not have an option.  Maybe Hammer or Morse but if Dukes doesn't work out then arm may have to be sacrificed for a plus fielder.

This is the last year ima give Dukes... which works out cause this could be his last year anyway. He did have a great finish though.

2 consecutive years with a good 2nd half.  I hope he puts together a strong year.

What if Dukes does have a monster year? Do the Nats give the guy a long term contract?

What would a monster year be for Dukes?  .278, 18 HR, 80 RBIs?

.280 / .360 / .500, sort of Jose Guillenish circa 2005, but with a little more pop.

I have a feeling from Rizzo's statements about Dukes, that this will be Dukes last season with the Nationals. I don't think Rizzo wants all the personal baggage that Dukes brings. I would not be surprised if he was traded or...........just a feeling I'm getting from management. Anybody else surprised by what Rizzo and Kasten said about Dukes, in the talk with Kasten the other day?

Anybody heard anything about Balester, Martis, and Martin being offered up in trade talks?

I haven't heard the comments you mention, but you aren't the only one who thinks Dukes may be on the way out.

He's not a Rizzo "character" guy. JMax, Hammer, and Nyjer are.

If Garrett Atkins and Mike Gonzalez are your idea(s) of great acquisitions then perhaps you should go root for your real favorite team.    :?

... They are good though?

They needed a 3b to play for atleast half the year.. thats why they signed him to a 1 year deal.

I wish we went after Gonzalez as well.

I fail to see how Atkins is better than what they had.  They went from the fifth best 3B in the division to the fifth best 3B in the division.

Gonzalez is a wash and at least they didn't give up anything other than cash for him.  He's effective but not a difference maker.

Who did they have at 3b currently? I see this as a safe signing because hes coming off a bad year. Maybe he'll do something and net them a trade.

For Gonzalez. I would've taken him. Hes effective and we need effective. For them its a step in the right direction.

Lol I never said they were great, as you said CMD, they were good pickups.

I'm being patient when it comes to the Nats, I'm just saying the O's have been adding a lot of pieces we haven't picked up much.  Well neither have the Mets, so that makes me feel better haha.
