Want to feel better? The Marlins have interest in Jesus Colome

Quote
The Marlins reportedly also have interest in right-hander Jesus Colome, formerly with the Nationals. The team did have talks with Derrick Turnbow, who has hooked on with Texas.

Agreed. I usually enjoy the off season and it's banter, but this year has been a little rough.
Eh, it's been okay.  Certainly not as fun as last offseason with the Milledge trade and the new stadium coming.

Nothing could be worse than 2006-2007.  That was just awful.

Haha.  I hope someone in the NL East picks his sorry ass up.  We would light him up.

Chico reports that we have no shot at Bradley

Quote
Credit must go, first of all, to MLB.com for the news blurb that the Nats have their eye on Milton Bradley. He served primarily as a designated hitter last year with the Texas Rangers, but he could fit in at almost any outfield position. He earned a trip to the all-star game last year during a season in which he batted .321, hit 22 home runs and knocked in 77 in 414 at bats. Of course Bradley, now looking for his eighth team, has the reputation as a mercurial talent and a hothead.

But as far as the Nats go, there are bigger problems.

It seems like Bradley has a fairly firm but not-yet-formalized deal in place with the Chicago Cubs. One source in Chicago I spoke to today thinks it's just a matter of time before Bradley puts on the C -- especially because Chicago just dumped some salaries to clear space for the 30-year-old free agent. This recent story in the Chicago Tribune mentions a bit more. Nationals officials were not up for comments of any sort today, and Bradley's agent, Sam Levinson, did not return phone calls.

Good. Maybe now we can focus on somebody who's not going to turn our clubhouse into a UFC ring.

It might make it more entertaining to watch the team if that were the case..

prepare for Andruw Jones.   :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/01/dodgers-working.html

looks like Jones has reworked his contract so that the Dodgers only owe him 12m with the promise that we won't be a Dodger in 2009. apparently the Dodgers will trade or release him before Spring Training.

just a gut feeling says that Bowden will try to catch lightning in a bottle again if Jones is flat-out released rather than traded.  and believe me, I am NOT happy about it.  :bang: :bang: :bang:

If this team start collecting out of shape players, I'll start rooting for the Rays or something

do you really put something like this past Bowden?

and before we start arguing again, i just wanna make it clear, I am 100% AGAINST even TALKING to Andruw Jones.

Anything is possible but I highly doubt he'd bring Andruw in. He'll be 32 next season and has been pretty bad the last 2 seasons. Bowden gets a bad rap here and I don't quite understand it. He's made a few questionable decisions but overall I believe he has made more good moves/signings than bad ones.

If Bowden signs Jones and calls it our major signing, I might tune out for the year.

I can't stomach that kind of ineptitude.

Agreed, Andruw Jones, who looked awful the past 2 years, who rarely played compared to Dodgers other outfielders, is definitely NOT supposed to come here.

If Bowden gets in any talks with him and somehow he comes here. I will not watch as much as i usually do. This would just be a smack in the face to our team.

A couple of years ago, I'd have supported this (before Jones' steep decline). But now I'd rather field 9 Adam Dunn's than 1 Andruw Jones.  I wouldn't even trade for this guy if he was making the league minimum.

I was thinking the exact same thing this morning while watching Sportscenter. We should stay as clear of Jones as we possibly can. He is done, washed up, over the hill, through, broke, etc...

I'm predicting we get none of those guys, make a bunch of other Corey Patterson like signings, and go into ST as is. It's a sad thought, but each day that goes by, it becomes more of a reality. The "in" thing right now is to shun the Nats and believe the media garbage that they aren't going to get better anytime soon. No one who could possibly make a difference is going to come here.

I might pour bleach into my eyes before I see AndrUw Jones in Nats uniform.

With the Dodgers paying his salary, Jones would become a no-risk invitation to spring training. Twice in the top five in MVP voting and a five-time All-Star, he would seem to fit in a place such as Washington, whose GM Jim Bowden is drawn to such projects.
