wtf what is all this enemy talk -- Washington had a team here for a gazillion years -- it was baltimore and angelos that kept a team from US all these years -- it was baltimore that made the masn deal with the devil -- they BENEFIT from the Nats being a competitive profitable entity -- we're not division rivals, we're not even in the same league -- Washington is NOT the ugly step sister here -- their anger is so misplaced ...

No one mentioned the fact that Tex is a union rep. I doubt he takes less money knowing that the union's policy is to take the best offer regardless.

That's why he's stalling.

What's with all this hero bullcrap?

You can tell they harbor extreme hatred for the Nats.

I'm not a member and I'm definitely not signing up.

I'll tell you one thing..this will definately make those Battle of the Beltway games more exciting. We may not be as well liked as we have been in the past when we go to Camden Yards.

Does JTrea81 know something everyone else doesn't?
He keeps saying the O's will top our offer.

The OH is tearing apart with no sign of Belkast to make them feel better.
Wow, this is just pure joy.

Just remember, they have the best fans even if they are wearing Sox and Yankees Jerseys when they come to Camden - the best park in baseball circa 1995.

QFT. I usually go to Baltimore for several games a year to see some American League ball, as well as the Nationals series. I went last year to get a look at Josh Hamilton in person. I have absolutely no problem getting excellent seats at any game that I want for a pretty cheap price. I think they are the best fans in all of baseball that just don't show up at the ballpark.

If he hasn't jumped on this offer then he clearly doesn't want to play for the Nats and is delaying in hopes of getting the team he wants to play for to match the numbers.

this.

Why would he want to play for us?
I can't blame him for that. I do think he will take the highest offer though.

I've seen this comment that he doesn't WANT to play here, and I'm not convinced that's true.  I think it's more that he wouldn't mind playing here but has a higher preference to play for a current winner (Boston or LA).  If he didn't want to play here at all, I think he'd either let us know that he doesn't want to play here or he doesn't take our call in the first place.  I don't think you keep a team you don't want to play for in the game, even as a ploy.  I think he'd have no problem playing here, even if he'd prefer to play somewhere else.

Of course he wouldn't, because he will be getting the most money here.
I think he just wants to play, but of course he wants to compete, who doesn't?

I think if he signs, we will be competing for 3rd in the NL east next season. I see us going ahead of the Braves.

OK... ASSUMING this really happens... (I don't want to jinx it, lol)

I want to know when individual game tickets go on sale at Camden Yards.  I've boycotted that place since a work outing in '98 (just 2 or 3 games before Cal ended The Streak).  I did buy tickets for the Sunday afternoon game when the Nats played there in '06 and I didn't go because it was in the middle of that Nor'easter when we got 14 inches of rain in 5 days and I was sure it wouldn't be played, but it stopped just long enough that they got the game in and the Nats scored runs in double-digits that day, darn it!

Anyway, IF this happens, I want to be there for when Tex steps to the plate for the first time in a Nats uniform at Camden Yards, that will be a historic Nats moment to cherish.  Those thunderous boos will be the sound of the Nats officially 'arriving'.  Manny and others have said how the rivalry hasn't really developed yet.  This would put an end to that talk.

Possibly the longest sentence in WNFF history.   It's probably close to 75 words.

So if the birds get Teixeira do we boo him when he comes here?

Beyond that, I say: Bring it, nages.  I will get a Nationals Teixeira jersey/t-shirt and go to Camden Yards cheering my lungs out just to rile up those miserable bastards.

I've never seen such an arrogant bunch of craps with absolutely NOTHING about which to be arrogant.  You would think 10+ losing seasons in a row would give them some humility, but BlO's fans actually take it upon themselves to look down upon other teams.

I would not boo the man himself, as I can't blame him for wanting to play for his hometown team, and I'd be a hypocrite to blame him for doing that. (I've always extolled the romanticism of playing for love of the game rather than money.)

I would, however, boo just to drown out the cheers from BlO's fans. :?

Absolutely. Wherever he goes we'll get a chance to boo him since both Boston and Baltimore play at Nats Park this season. :pimp:

Teixeira deal appears imminent -- but with whom?

* Jon Heyman

Things appear to be heating up in the Mark Teixeira talks, and baseball people believe now that Teixeira will have a new team before Christmas.

The Angels' decision Sunday to drop out of the derby seems to have crystallized things for Teixeira, the 28-year-old first base star who's choosing between the Red Sox, Nationals and Orioles, and perhaps the Yankees. The likely deal is expected to be for close to $180 million, though the final figure depends upon which team Teixeira selects.

The Red Sox, disappointed when they failed to make a deal with Teixeira late last week, are still viewed as the favorite by most executives on other teams, though it's not known whether that's inside information or guesswork. While most free agents tend to take the highest offer, there's skepticism that a player of Teixeira's stature would choose teams like the Nationals or Orioles, who appear to be at least a couple years away from contention.

The Red Sox are clearly still involved in talks, even after owner John Henry said they were "not going to be a factor'' after a meeting requested by Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein at Teixeira's Dallas-area home.

The Nationals also are heavily involved in negotiations with the Severna Park, Md., native. The Orioles are believed to be talking to Teixeira, as well.

If it's still going to happen before Christmas like that article indicates then tomorrow would be the day to do it.

I truly believe that the Nats have offered the best, most lucrative deal -- not just in terms of money and years, but also willing to agree to an opt out clause and a no trade clause -- it would appear that baltimore is short on years/money and boston would refuse the opt out/no trade ---  now whether Tex takes the Nats deal or not remains to be seen
