Padres are expected to make a push for him as well.

Wow, now that would be something, him going back there...

I think the post meant Sasaki to Padres, not Soto.

You're right, my bad.

In any case Sasaki to the Padres would be better for the game (as opposed to him going to the Dodgers)

Rays designated Austin Shenton. I think we should grab him. Pretty nominal performance in his big league cup of coffee.

But he hit .283/.387/.559 against RHP last year in Triple A, and .326/.447/.602 in 2023 against RHP in Double A and Triple A

Looks like his walk rate and k rate in mlb stayed the same as in the high minors in 2023-24. He has 2 options. A 120 ops + in his short stint. Worth a waiver claim. More likely to contribute than most rule 5s without the need to keep him up.

I think we have enough guys like this. It's time to stop bottom feeding and sign some real players.

Would have been a good platoon partner for chaparro (.300   .378   .600 vs LHP)

Pretty depressing thread so far.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10142321-alex-bregman-rumors-nationals-among-suitors-for-astros-star-in-mlb-free-agency

Bregman is the biggest name linked to the Nationals so far and he OPS'ed .768 last year. I don't care how good his defense is, they're saying a six year deal for a .260 hitter who can't break .800 OPS? Yikes.

I mean, he's a career .848 OPS. .798 over the last three seasons though.

I don't want him because he's a freaking cheater. And I don't mean just 2017. I don't think its coincidence that his slugging percentage dropped 82 points after the cheating scandal was broken.

Hard pass on Bregman. Would rather trade for something.

I'd rather have Walker on a 3 year deal and stick with Tena until House is ready.

I'm coming around to Joc, too. Walker, Joc, and one of the pitchers after Burnes and Snell. Bieber short and big bucks, maybe Fried, or maybe something lesser.

I guess I would root for Bregman. But would rather not have to.  How is his power now?

Ok, looked it up and his slugging is generally down since 2019.  However 2024 was higher than 2023.  Maybe instead of worrying about cheating hope he can find a way help our other guys?

Darnell will change him into a slap hitter.  No worries.  That OBP gonna climb.

My wish list for FA acquisitions is Bregman, Santander(DH) and a frontline SP and a "closer". C'mon its Christmas and I've been fairly good this year. I can hear the voices now "whaddabout House?" If House is ready move Bregman to 1B ala employee #11.

I'll pass on Bregman. He'd be extremely hard to root for. If its not Soto I'm not sure I really want them delving into free agency too much beyond pitching. I'm expecting some more struggling vets we hope to flip at the deadline.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10143789-contract-team-predictions-for-soto-and-each-mlb-player-who-rejected-qualifying-offer

Bleacher Report has us taking Nick Pivetta
I'd be OK with that but would prefer a bigger target without a QO like Bieber.

In addition to Pivetta, Burnes,  Fried, Severino, and Manaea come with loss of a pick.

Rumors of Bregman going to Detroit, but that may be just Heyman doing his stalking horse shill thing for Bregman's agent to stir up the market.

Good. No interest here. Can't let a guy like that around the young players.
