How come we know when to DFA someone before Rizzo. Can anyone tell me one player past or present that we did not expect or demand to be DFA or sent down before it happened ?

erasmo was somewhat surprising given his track record.

I believe I called for him to be DFA well before it happened. I also called for Schwarber to be benched or DFA'ed early in his stint in DC and we know how he turned it around.

Think I heard Bob or Frannie say that Jake Alu had been promoted.

Lefty from the Marlins.

Quote
Garcia, 27, made his major league debut with the Marlins earlier this year, though he recorded just one out in his only appearance while surrendering a hit and a walk. While Garcia has virtually no major league experience, he’s pitched well during his time in the minors with a 2.85 ERA in 41 1/3 innings of work with a 35.4% strikeout rate at the Triple-A level. That kind of strikeout ability could certainly prove valuable to a Nationals club that currently relies on Jose Ferrer and Joe La Sora, both of whom sport ERAs north of five, as their left-handed bullpen options.

So, given they haven't been DFA'd yet, are Dickerson and Smith sticking with the team the rest of the year?

honestly, I think Smith is back next year unless he's due an outrageous sum in arbitration. Veteran presence.

As for Dickerson, I'm a little surprised and would have thought Blake Rutherford would have gotten a shot. I think there is something to the idea that they are letting him play with the idea that they will be signing veterans looking to reestablish their value in the future, so they don't want to have the rep of cutting these guys loose as soon as the trade deadline passes. He's not in demand right now for a contender or they would have dealt him, so giving him walking papers means he's not going to get a shot at the majors.

As for Rutherford, I think the rule is that there can still be no-40 man minor league deals, so perhaps he gets dealt and then gets a call up elsewhere.

which Garcia? I'm assuming Luis, given they just added one in the bullpen.

I guess Dickerson is more Maikel Franco than Nelson Cruz.  Probably told him don't get on the flight for the road trip.

Wow! Glad to be wrong!! Hopefully García can figure  it out in AAA. I'm guessing Rutherford and Baker up to replace them?

no announcement of corresponding moves? Rutherford? who will be playing 2nd?

Edit - Baker, of course. Can add him to the 40 man by 60 day IL'ng Cronin.

Baker seems to make the most sense unless they want to try out Lipscomb at 2nd or bring up Downs. Rutherford is the obvious OF slot.

rutherford gets dickerson's slot on the 40 man and 26 man. Downs is on the 40 man already so can be called up without a further move. Baker, otoh, will have to be added to the 40 man so there would have to be another move. Maybe that's Cronin to the 60 day IL, as speculated by MLBTR.
