Adon coming up per talknats
they need somebody to take lumps in blowouts to save guys like Weems and Thompson from being burned out throwing garbage innings.

Why not Espino? Adon has been awful-to-mediocre at Rochester.

a pitcher who is optioned down must stay in the minors 15 days, so I don't think Espino is eligible to be recalled. He was optioned on 6/26.

FWIW, it may not be Adon. I'm looking on the Nats transaction list, and it says they signed Luis Cessa after his release by Colorado and he may be assigned to the Nats.  https://www.mlb.com/nationals/roster/transactions/2023/07

Reporting is he was signed to a minor league deal, and initially assigned to Rochester, but there's that reported transaction.

The Nationals have signed Luis Cessa to a minor league contract and sent him to Triple-A Rochester, tweets Talk Nats. The right-hander had been released from a non-roster deal with the Rockies last week.

here's the Nats website transaction list:

07/06/23   RHP Luis Cessa assigned to Washington Nationals.
07/06/23   RHP Luis Cessa roster status changed by Washington Nationals.

That said, Cessa isn't on the active list, so maybe this is just something procedural when you sign a guy who had been on an MLB contract earlier in the year.

The Nationals must have the players rights in order to assign them. The first part says the acquired Cessa’s rights period nothing more or less. The second part is the mechanism that places him on an affiliated team.

Thanks. So basically, read down on a day, not up. That explains why, when you go to Cessa's MLB/MiLB player page, the bottom transaction says assigned to Rochester.  I was reading up for the latest action.

Look at Wood’s page. He was activated by the National League Futures.

wow, we traded Wood!

Funny, I think they changed the order on Cessa's page.  May explain my confusion.

La Sorsa sent back to Rochester. Hill clears waivers and also is back at Rochester

I'll be curious whether they make a roster move today. Adon did his job in Adon fashion yesterday, but he's probably useless over the next couple of days given the number of pitches he threw. Can't call up Espino or La Sorsa as it's less than 15 days  since they were sent down. Harris and Cronin are on the 40 man roster but have been on the IL in Rochester, leaving Rutledge as the only minor league guy available to eat innings in a blow out. i don't think they disrupt Rutledge's routine for this.

My guess is they perhaps send down Adon, recall Cronin, put him on the 60 day IL (has pitched since 5/20), then replace him with Machado or another JAG to sop up innings in case of a blow out.

I dont want Rutledge to be called up to be a bullpen guy. He comes up, give him the start

Adon can finish a blow-out as well as anyone else. No need for a move.

well, no move made, but Adon can't pitch before the ASB due to the 3 he threw Friday. That makes him unable to finish a blowout until next Friday, when all of the bullpen is fully rested. So long as they can save Abbott and Willingham today, that's probably not a problem Sunday even if there's a rain delay.  But, of course, it could have been a problem had Irvin not come out and pitched 2 innings after today's delay.

After the ASB, I expect Espino to be back.

didn't Corbin lose a grandparent last month? Highs and lows. Too bad, would have brought great joy to the grandparent.

Am I the only one who thinks Rico Garcia sounds like a game generated name?

Definitely an OOTP player name (also I've never heard of him).
