Verlander gives up six runs in five innings and gets booed walking off the field. Mets and Phillies both lost yesterday too
Spending 110 million on 4 34-40 year old starting pitchers, what could go wrong?  That gets you about 57 innings so far with all of them over 4.5 ERAs.

It might seem fun to have an owner that spends like a drunken sailor and gets you some feel good pre-season predictions, but when it doesn't work out, it will certainly leave a mess to clean up and rebuild.

if we had won last night we'd be in striking distance of 2nd place.

I have difficulty seeing Buck and Sanchez working out.

Maybe Showalter can tolerate a catcher who cannot catch, and who hits about .200, as long as Sanchez hits homers.

Phillies drop their fifth straight
Over the last few weeks they have lost six then won five and now lost five. Pitching has been bad. Nola not good this year. They may have lucked out not agreeing to a long term deal. Wheeler also has been off. Walker has been bad. Suarez just back. Trea has been bad. Fire Joe!  They should bring him back to fire him again.

Pitching is the issue. Their rotation has an ERA over 5

when you see your player has a series coming up against philly in points fantasy league, it's a definite factor in whether to rotate him into the line up.

How the heck are the Marlins still 2 games over .500 with a -52 run differential that is the worst in the NL by a good margin.  It surely can't be sustainable to keep winning 1 run games?

The Orioles did that one year but I think finished closer to neutral run differential. They made the playoffs and got eliminated. Winning one run games against mediocre and bad teams and getting blown out by good teams is not a recipe for success.

Maybe beating bad teams but losing badly to really good teams is the profile of a team getting close to .500. However, the Marlins always beat the Nats, so there is that.

It will be a pleasure if the Fillies and Muts stumble around .500 for the season. Uncle Stevie Cohen's head will explode. Maybe same for Middleton.

Trade for Nola.  Phillies should be in tank mode since no restrictions on their lottery spot.

Almost there. Just don't trade prospects for anybody.

Per MLBTR: Pete Alonso likely heading to the IL, potentially for an extended stay, after getting hit in the wrist by a pitch against Atlanta.

The Athletic says:

Quote
Losers of six straight, with a highly-paid and wildly underperforming roster whose record has dipped to 30-33, the Mets must now navigate the next 10 days, or perhaps longer, without one of the few stalwarts of their underachieving lineup. Alonso leads the major leagues with 22 homers and 49 RBIs.
