Great time to pass him through waivers to see if someone is desperate enough to make a claim.

Probably has been done with him several times over the past couple years.

Dan Haren says :yesyes:

John Lester...who then flipped off the fans as he drove away after having been traded...

I think the "Big Marine" got boo'd more than once...

I know I'm forgetting some...

Paid him $5 mil and he turned into multiple seasons of quality production from Lane Thomas and now solid assets in Clemmey, Tena, and Ramírez Jr. Great signing!

So Corbin can finish the year with his 100 wins. We will wish him good luck, as a faithful Nat who contributed in 2019. Farewell, Patrick.

I don't think I've ever seen this celebrated as an accomplishment when it's combined with 130 losses.   And he's in his fourth straight year of leading the NL in losses.

But he's earned his golden Mini Me statue with the franchise record for innings pitched due to contract.   Would make a nice fan giveaway at the end of the season.

We have a handful of gassed young pitchers and no real intriguing AAAA arms worth giving another shot. Corbin remains useful as a guy who pitches every 5th day.

you do wonder about his fate next year. I think he gets a minor league contract with a major league spring invite from some team. I don't see him getting a major league contract. A better system might find a fix. He's not consistently awful, so it's likely something that gets him pitching well enough that he's had problems doing consistently.

If he finishes the year strong someone will give him a one or two year major league deal.

He'll be on someone's roster next season. It won't be Washington's. Both sides need the breakup.

If he wants to keep playing he'll get a minor league contract somewhere, but let's not overreact to one outing

that might be the only thing someone can post in WNFF that would justify a lifetime ban :)

I would never have thought those numbers possible at this point. What are they attributed to? Anything beyond blind luck?

He sees a light at the end of the tunnel.  He feels lighter because he knows he is almost done fulfilling his commitment and pitching through his nightmarish results.

My guess is it's the cutter he introduced this year finally playing. They talked about this a little on the broadcast, but it seems to play off his slider well against RHB. It seemed pretty evident in the game against the Yankees (just using the eye test).

If you look at his Baseball Savant page, his four seamer usage down is down from 16.9% (2023) to 8.3% (2024). He's throwing the cutter 17.9% of the time after not throwing it at all last year.

IMO, it's something hitters eventually adjust to, but it's pretty fun to watch right now.

Probably helps that two of those starts were against bad teams

there was an interesting article in FG about pitchers' predictability in pitch offerings. Broke things down a number of ways, looking at counts and the number of different pitches a pitcher uses. It's longish, but Corbin is one of the least predictable 3-pitch pitchers in terms of what he throws in different counts. OTOH, Gore and in some respects Parker are among the top 10 in predictability. Makes sense for Gore - gets behind, gets to 2 strikes, throws his fastball. OTOH, Corbin is trying the crafty lefty approach to perhaps compensate for his stuff worsening.

i'm happy for Corbin after all the struggles. He'll probably be able to get at least a one year deal with an option for a second for next year.
