I mean, arguably the three best pure hitters on the team are on the mend. All things considered, he doesn't have a ton of options at the moment.

Yep.  Kendrick I suppose would be the best hitter after Bryce but this lineup in general is not exactly offering a lot of options. The next few days are going to be more about trying to grab one or maybe two from the Mets without anyone getting hurt and without the team morale getting too low.

Yeah, Martinez's boldest move yet, play dead in April.
I get it now, we're gonna sneak up on them. Smart! Only a few more losses and we can start at the bottom and gradually sink to the top.

I loved right before the grand slam he was hanging out on the mound with his friends like..."well, that sucks. What we gonna go?"

Classic Ray Knight, on fire again tonight. Wondering why Martinez went with Madson, he was "toasted", should have gone straight to Solis.

More and more he reminds us of MOY Matt Williams. "He's my eighth inning guy."

Matt would have said "standard decision". Of course if they would have brought in Kelley probably would have lost anyway. But saved Madson for the coast.

Davey went with Madson because he had been reading WNFF about how important these April games are. Just the same move he would make in October.  :hysterical:

I need to check to see if my DVR has the post game recorded. Ray Knight started listing the number of pitches per reliever over the last few games, stating his case for why you don't go to Madson again last night. Contrast that to Martinez saying he's our guy.

At the off season press conferences it always seemed like Martinez was working off of talking points. Now that he has to use his own words he's being exposed. What a disaster of a hire. Firing Baker is on the Lerners, bad decision. Selecting Martinez as the replacement is on Rizzo, how can you interview this guy and not realize he's not capable of doing the job?

Bob or FP pointed out that Madson had thrown 100 pitches in five days.  That's roughly what a starter typically throws in 5 days, and a starter doesn't get warmed up to pitch every game.

I never understood how he wasn't able to realize that about Matt.

Has he ever made a good managerial hire?

Davey.  (The real Davey.)

Year one, maybe. Year two Davey was so exhausted by the grind that his post-game interviews sounded like an old man in a nursing home babbling about how he wanted his pudding. Or maybe Gary Busse.  Contrasted to morning radio interviews, he was a completely different person.

Dusty had a presence, suggesting he had seen almost everything in baseball, who everyone. He sometimes made mistakes in the flow of a game -- not challenging the batter hitting Matt W -- but david planned to use Madson. He claims to have thought it out. He also claims to have left Madson to pitch until Madson had used up the pitch-count that david (and the pitching coach?) had planned. If "planned" is an accurate description of what they did.

Can someone reconstruct how much each of the bullpen pitchers had been used recently?  A little foresight might have suggested Madson was gassed, but were Kelley and Kintzler available?  how many days in a row had those 3 and Solis pitched?  Would anyone have gone straight to Grace or even Cole with a clean inning?

Grace or Kelley. Either would have been better than Madson, who is 37, who closed the night before. Start them with a clean inning...easier than calling them with runners on base.

Reds have fired their manager, did not make it out of April.  Riggleman is interim manager.

If you can get the video of Knight post game he did exactly that, listing the recent work load of each reliever.
