Doesn't this thread amount to serious impatience with how the Nats are playing under David ("Far From a Davey") Martinez? Sloppy play so far.

I have rescinded the temporary "y" presented Dave earlier in the week.

You're too late numbnuts. Haven't you heard of Zimdakid? :)

Enjoying the snow here, if you aren't a misrepresenter, bubba.

In fact, now that I say that...I saw a man here in a grey Nats hat yesterday. If you are indeed in town, where did you eat/drink out yesterday?

From June 20 to July 2nd last year the Nationals, under Dusty "GOAT" Baker, went 5-7. :stir:

Still in DC. Where are you in Co.? I plan to be in Aspen last week of July and first week in August. Will be fishing the Roaring Fork. Always like company.

I'm here in Aspen until Sunday. We did a road trip from Denver to Telluride, over to Moab and back to Denver thru Aspen. Snowed about 4" last night and went from 60 to 30 and holding. Went down to Basalt to visit the flyshop there but decided it was too cold to hit the river by myself and keep the wife and kids at the hotel.

So, if you don't ski and you aren't going to fish....not much else to do here but eat and drink....but who would complain about that?!?

The Nats also sucked in September, including a 3-game series where the Braves outscored us 18-5; we were shut out twice by two different opponents within 4 days; and we narrowly avoided a 4-game sweep by the Brewers (who, by then, had remembered that they were not very good and only made it to the post-season because they'd racked up the wins in the first half).

I like winning 90+ games in a season, and don't care that much about post-season since it's rare for the best team to win the World Series. Plus, you have to get to the play-offs to have a chance to win in the play-offs.

Forgive me if I'm pushing the panic button too soon, but the Nats haven't inspired much confidence lately.

The brewers made the postseason?

I ski and the hiking and biking there is world class. Also in the summer is the Aspen Institute ( politicos , journalist , cabinet members ) give low cost lectures. I also go to the concerts  (everything from Classical to Country at little or no cost).
The fly shop in Basalt is great . Nice people. Actually there are two. Taylor Creek and Frying Pan Anglers. I use Taylor Creek.

I should have said, this time of year with 4" of snow on the ground.

We stopped in Frying Pan as we parked at the top And walked down.

Still one of my favorite US cities.

Werent they in the NL wild card last year?

ETA: damn, I misremembered that. The Brewers had looked like a lock for the division in June and didn’t even make the wild card. That’s how bad they imploded. And they killed us in September.

As Spider stated, this is a dumb thread. But why do you think Dusty would even take a call from the Nats. I know everyone here thinks he is an idiot, but do you think man has no pride either?

Really?

I guess there are differing definitions of idiot.  I though Dusty was a pretty smart guy.

I thought he did a masterful job of utilizing the entire roster and keeping players motivated throughout the long season.  I was disappointed in some of his decisions in the playoffs, in particular excessive trust in Werth, but I can't ever remember a moment when I considered him an "idiot", much less called him such.  So I resent being tarred by the same brush.

September laxness due to having a huge division lead.

I hate left wing anti cancer crusaders.
they get in the way of camel superpowers that Dave(y?) has been trying to channel.

Something is getting in the way of something  because there is a real disconnect with the Nats.
Don't seem like a team at all

Dave should probably channel himself back to Chicago and crawl back under Maddon's wing. I say this only because I absolutely hate metrics guys, and guys who try weakly to apply "new school" psychology when trying to get their point across to 20-something millionaire ballplayers. If the Nats are still struggling come May 1st, fire the b*tch, get Wally Backman in here and we win 2 or 3 rings before his act gets old. Players LOVE that guy, and for good reason. That will never happen, but it's fun to dream about anyway.....

Oh look, I was right and it’s the curse of Dusty. We can only break the curse by rehiring him.

Only $1.8 million guaranteed. The Nats are worth at least $1.6 billion, the only reason to not fire Davey tonight is pride freaking with the old man.

too soon to fire him, but if this team is playing .500 ball come end of May, then yeah, it's got to be discussed.  There's no excuse for the offense to be this putrid.
