If he was so great at stradegy he wouldn’t be 0-10 in elimination games

Is this true? Wasn’t game 4 of NLCS an elimination game? That’s just off the top of my head.

I think folks have been referring to his LAST 10 elimination games...   ...which, if that is the case, I agree is disingenuous...

Williams got a bad rap, he wasn't Robinson, Davey Johnson, or Baker, but he wasn't as bad as Acta or Martinez. Williams was brought in to install discipline after DJ left the team a complete mess, it worked for one year but obviously the players didn't like it. Williams rigid style was unpopular but it wasn't the reason the Nats tanked in 2015, that was simply based on injuries, see the quote from ESPN below.

are we really at a point where folks are arguing that Williams wasn't a bad manager?  Don't we remember that he lost the clubhouse and made inexplainable decisions in the post season?

I forget who dubbed him "The Big Intern", but that was the best WNFF post of all time...

that was a perfect post.

I would like to bring Dusty back just to do the post game pressers.  Davey reminds me too much of Acta so far.

Sorry. I should have said game 4 of NLDS in 2017. That was an elimination game. And the Nats won. And I believe Dusty was managing.

Of course.  I don't know where this idea came from, that he never won an elimination game, but it seems to be a popular notion.  He's never won a game that would eliminate the other team; but that's just saying he never won a series.

Pretty sure that's just me. Losing the clubhouse I blamed on Werth. Losing game two I blamed on Storen.

At some point folks were counting the most recent in a row, but you are right...

That's BS. Williams was an adequate manager when his players were healthy. Baker's team won 97 games despite losing player after player to injuries, that would be impossible if he was so deficient at strategy.
You can't give Williams a pass on the pitching injuries.  Barrett especially.  He got his relievers up way too many times without getting them in the ballgame, and they all ended hurt or having horrible years. He's been hit on this by every writer worth respecting.

Over the course of 162 games, Dusty has appeared to add value everywhere he's managed. He won the division twice comfortably with injury-hobbled teams and seems to have a supernatural ability to get good performance out of bench players. He's been fired in three different time zones because of issues that show up at much shorter time spans.

Another way to look at it: the two crucial mistakes that cost us game 5, he could have made both of those mistakes during the season, costing us two games, and nobody would remember.

The dugout is two sections wide and Williams was watching the next batter set up in the opposite direction. Do you think that Martinez is going to police the far corner?

Bullpen arms get hurt all the time. Managers have to balance trying to win and trying to protect the player. But it was the injuries to half the line up that really hurt.

Dude, I've spent lots of time in a major league dugout and it is impossible to not hear/see commotion at the opposite end of the dugout. I'm not saying Williams should have rocketed over there to stop it, but for him to be like, "I didn't even know it was happening" just shows how stupid the guy is.

This. People are overreacting because we are 4-4.  if this stretch happened on August 7th and we were 8 games up no one would care.
I'm not making any determinations based on 8 games and before the season started I would have said anybody could manage this team to the division title but if you have a guy calling the shots who thinks batting a player who will probably steal 80 bases in the 6th spot instead of at the top of the order and expect the pitcher hitting 2 spots later to drive him in then all bets are off.

Martinez wanted aggressive base running, so we're giving outs away

Martinez looks like a deer in the headlights. Letting Dusty go was the beginning of the end.
