Who decided bWar is the end all of metrics? He has a career OPS+ of 139. That’s not terrible.
I don't think that 27.4 WAR is bad either. I think they absolutely would have made the playoffs in 2016 without him (OPS+ 114). He was really good in 2017 (156), but that team was stacked and won going away and he missed a third of the season. Hell, in 2014 he had an OPS+ of 111 and played in only 100 games. So maybe they make it without him as well that year. 2012? He was the Rookie of the Year, so I guess..
I never said he wasn't a good or even great player. And I seriously go back and forth as to whether I want him to re-sign. But he's getting a lot of mileage off of 2015 and that is getting farther and farther in the rearview.
