Who decided bWar is the end all of metrics?  He has a career OPS+ of 139. That’s not terrible.

I don't think that 27.4 WAR is bad either. I think they absolutely would have made the playoffs in 2016 without him (OPS+ 114). He was really good in 2017 (156), but that team was stacked and won going away and he missed a third of the season. Hell, in 2014 he had an OPS+ of 111 and played in only 100 games. So maybe they make it without him as well that year.  2012? He was the Rookie of the Year, so I guess..

He’s number 6 in career OPS for current players. The WAR numbers are weighed down by his defense and how they rate that. I’m kind of skeptical about how they rate defense. We will see how he does. Makes sense to me they didn’t want to sign him and moved on.
