The fact that yesterday’s event didn’t have one single mention of Bryce makes me think that something is in the works for the Nats. Just a hunch though.
I think it's the exact opposite.

Best scenario I can think of is that Bryce resigns with the Nats on a 1 year, $15 mill deal....

He'd be a distraction all season with speculation about his next move, maybe if he paid us the $15 million.

If Harper signs with us then Eaton is expendable. Realistically who could we get for him as we have 3 more years of control. We need a SP  for the 4th spot as Sanchez is really our 5th. I don't think we can get Kluber or is he already gone? I know there were a lot of names thrown out earlier in the off-season but we are a little over two weeks for ST to start.

He probably should have !

Going into the FA market after such a crap season doesn't get money thrown his way by a dozen teams...

He's a good, not great, player.

Not to mention a showoff and a clubhouse distraction.

He’s going to get $30 million a year. Just not for as many years as he thought.

Sanchez is the #4.  Trading Eaton away now is selling low.  Another quality arm in the bullpen is a priority IMO.

Don’t start me on this. I was told Eaton was fully recovered from his injury by posters here although the team reported he sat out several games in September due to the knee acting up. Maybe a large bag of chips?

So what if he sat out meaningless games? If you don’t believe he’s recovered, look at his stats.

Totally on board there.  Eaton is/was a bust.

I'd rather have Harper...  :o

I knew that would get you. I provided the link last time and you didn’t respond after that. All the Nats games last year turned out to be meaningless.

2 years, 118 games. He wasn't just some filler to the roster, he was supposed to contribute.  Bust.

He can take Zimm’s place.

He'll have to get injured more often...he played in more games than Face did last year...hit for a better average too...

Batting average, really ?  Is this 1970 ?

Zimm has been more productive at the plate than Eaton during the latter's time here.

Both cumulatively and in a per at bat basis.  Do you really want to argue against that ?

Great, now try combining 2017 and 1018, which is the time frame that Eaton's been with the Nats.

Which is the time period I was talking about, not just 2018.

If this delay ends up being all a ploy to sell video games, I will be extremely disappointed because it signals that Harper is all about the money.  Particularly if he signs elsewhere.  I'm all about maximizing leverage to an extent, but I do think his decision  impacts many other players and free agents, not to mention the several teams that are just kind of "waiting".

On MLB the other day someone suggested a free agency window, sort of like a college signing period.  That way everything gets done by a certain date and teams (marketing departments, ticket offices etc) and players (and their families) can plan for the upcoming season accordingly.  I think that is an interesting an idea.

What would happen to unsigned guys after that date?

If I recall, their suggestion was to reopen the window on opening day, or maybe May 1.  But I doubt that the union would go along with that.  So something to work on.

I would guess all the top free agents would be locked up during that initial window, but the lower level guys would  get maybe only spring training invites.
