Lerners are cheap, but Harper not coming back is a blessing in disguise. The team that gives him that big contract is going to regret it similar to the Rangers with ARod.

Nats are better off. Decent moves this offseason, just continue to add and move away from the Harper era.

They made an offer to start the process and if some of the other clubs wants to get in an auction scenario they will decide when and if to jump in. Yes they have an emotional bond with him but they know what his value is to the Nats who are restricted by the salary cap penalty. I believe the re-signing of Rendon is more important to the Nats on field success after 2019 than Harpers.
