Soto leads the league in OPS (min 200 ABs)

At what point does the conversation shift from RoY to where he will place in MVP voting?

I don't understand why the Juan Soto story isn't making a bigger splash nationally.  He is having one of the greatest seasons by a teenager in baseball history.  Fangraphs shows only six teens with a higher WAR  in a season than him, and he will pass three of them in the next few weeks (all three are Hall of Famers).  By offensive production, he trails only Ott and Conigliaro.  I have to believe that those two were getting a lot more adulation than Soto is.  Maybe as his home run totals grow and if the Nationals can get back in a pennant race, he will get recognition for the sensational debut he is having. But for now, he's getting the kind of coverage any 24-year-old rookie having a good season would get.

I agree, but I think the lack of national attention is probably a good thing.   He had no hype coming up, so that's probably part of the reason.  If he keeps up this pace the rest of the year and starts next year the same, I think he'll definitely be getting some attention though.

Because MLB doesn't know how to market Hispanic players. And there is not as much interest among them with casual fans as there is for white players.

Agree.  Good point about no hype ahead of time, unlike Harper. In the long run, his coming out of nowhere will be a terrific part of his story.

To the Yankees.  Or maybe it was the Red Sox. Saves time. We don't have to agonize over him leaving in a few years.

I'm also happy that he's been flying under the radar.  Won't last forever, but it definitely makes adjusting to the big leagues easier.  He's gonna be really tight on having enough plate appearances to qualify for league leaders lists, but if he has a hot finish, he could conceivably be near the top of the league in BA and even OPS.  Wouldn't that be something!

It's all economics. And Math. WAR divided by angst the multiplied by the inverse of the current panic factor.

He's getting a lot of attention in the baseball press, but part of the reason he's not getting more mainstream press is that baseball is not as big as it was in the 50s and earlier.  Also, New York has Gleyber and Andujar, so there's a lot of rookies right now dividing up the attention.  It probably is true that baseball doesn't know how to hype Latinos.
