I’m shocked he hasn’t been fired more often. If I was Rendon, I’d be agent shopping right now- there is a massive conflict of interest to representing both him and Harper
worked OK for Jimmy G using Brady's agent.

For as much as people say cousins was set up perfectly - getting the starting job as he was entering franchise tag territory, jimmy g going to the niners after they saw the cousins scenario play out may have been even better

I kind of can't see Rendon wanting to sign a big deal elsewhere and be seen as some sort of franchise savior with the accompanying leadership responsibilities and media presence. I'm not saying he won't do it, but I think it could turn out to be a huge mistake.

I have never understood why this doesn't seem to bother anyone (except you and me).

The last third of this article argues that Boras is acting unethically by representing clients with conflicting interest and that informed consent does not apply.

I doubt athletes even consider this, honestly. They just know Boras has a record of maximizing dollars and has tremendous resources.

Is his record for non-star players really extra ordinary?

Desperation to save face after losing Harper, so we'll give him a realllly nice contract.
Exactly.

No, but there's an easy narrative to sell. Professional athletes do not live in the real world, usually. Boras points to $200m+ contracts and tells good player, "I'll do the same for you."

Hell, he did get Matt Wieters $21 million guaranteed and got Rafael Soriano a ton of money when no one wanted him. Wonder how!

This maybe a mindfact but I believe Harper is playing not to get hurt hoping that he does not derail his pending new contract. I do not see him running out infield hits, chasing down balls in the outfield with abandon and he is not clutch as his seven HR's, five were solo shots.

Right now the most importantl thing for his career is marking it to free agency healthy. It sucks that what’s best for his career isn’t what’s best for the team, but it’s not like the team cares about what’s important for an employee’s career before making decisions. I basically see this as a player’s version of a team holding a guy down to get an extra year of control

I don't know whether it's trying not to get hurt or if he's just not the outfielder we had thought he was, but clearly, this "five-tool" player is four-tool.  He is a below average outfielder.  That's going to cost him.
Maybe three-tool.  If he's not running hard on the basepaths, can you really credit him with the "running" tool?  Or dare I say, two- tool?  If he doesn't consistently hit the cutoff man or throw to the right base ....

Clearly, hitting and slugging are tools of his, but is that enough for a contract the size people speak of?

Harper is Washington's modern day version of Eddie Yost, aka The Walking Man. OK for a lead off hitter with little power but ... I wish Harper had a lot less plate discipline and a lot more Yogi Berra (bad ball hitter par excellence) in him. A walk to Harper is a victory for the opponent, more times than not. Clearly, Joe Maddon  thought so.

For what it's worth Ruth was 3 tool.  Irrelevant.  Harper has a long way to go before we start comparing him to Ruth.

The first part of this season is showing Harper what it will be like if he stays and doesn't have protection in the order after Murphy is gone.  With the Cubs, he'll have Bryant and Rizzo for several years.

You mean, leading all of baseball in home runs and 6th in RBI?
