Besides the Nationals, what team in the playoff hunt is in need of an upgrade at catcher and want to make a trade? Plenty of teams would love him. But how many teams rather trade for him instead of pitching?

The Angels, if they decide to make a run for it. Indians, but they're only leading their division because the AL Central is a train wreck and they have so many other holes to fill that I can't see them making a serious bid for a catcher.

JT maybe stuck in Miami this year. Understandable Miami asking high, only time will tell.

Yeah, you can keep him, absurd asking price when they gave away their other pieces to Jeter’s buddies.

He'd be a good fit in Boston if they've got the chips to trade.  Realmuto would be a heck of an upgrade over Vazquez's .212 / .249

JT doesn't have $295 million worth of baggage to drag along with him.  It's really easy to say the Marlins got hosed in the Stanton trade (or the Dee Gordon trade) but the reality is, no one is going to give up a ton of prospects AND eat almost a third of a billion dollars in salary. You can have prospects, or you can have salary relief, but you're not going to get both.

Yelich had the most team-friendly contract but it will be a couple of years before anyone really knows if the Brewers won that deal, or if the Fish did.  RHP Jordan Yamamoto is looking like the possible jewel of that deal.

Then we can get back Leon and our problems are solved. :mg:

You guys saying trade Robles and then when Bryce leaves will be whining like babies say Rizzo should be fired for trading him.

Every time I've seen Archer over the years, it's obvious his stuff is nasty. But ... he gets hit hard, and that shouldn't regularly happen with the stuff he has. 2018: 76 IP, 76 hits surrendered. ERA in four of his 7 years has been over 4, as high as 4.60. Never under 3.22. 4.18 this season.

Elite stuff, only decent results. He'll be cruising along for 4/5 innings or so, then suddenly melt down.

Instead, we will be whining like babies when we look at our rotation in the forseeable future (beyond this year).  We have Max, Strasburg, and then nothing.  Joe Ross maybe?  If Fedde is our top prospect, that does not bode well.  Gio will be gone and Roark has jumped the shark.

Nats need to get some starting pitching in FA. Gotta keep Robles and all other OF because I think Soto ends up at 1B as soon as next year, at least part time as they groom him to replace Zim.

Well, in a perfect world, you get Ross back, and Fedde matures.  Voth has been decent at AAA (6 ER in his last 5 starts, and he's pitched at least 6 innings in his last 7 starts).  So a 2019 rotation of Max, Strasburg, Ross, Roark, and Fedde isn't terrible, with Voth competing for a slot.  Romero has a chance of being here next year as well at some point.

If you want to go to the FA market, Patrick Corbin is attractive.

Crowe could be a starter, too.

I expect them to make a qualifying offer to Gio and I expect him to take it.

Do you think they hope he takes it?  If they don't think he's worth that much for one year (what is it now, $19M or close?) they should not risk it.  Look how the Orioles got burned with Wieters.

Seems crazy to think we'd offer Gio a one year ~$18 million QO.

I don't know if it is crazy.  They will need a lefty starter (if you've seen what lefties do to this team, then you can't say there's no need for at least one in the rotation) and he's been pretty solid over the past several years.  Even this year, if you average his highs and lows, his numbers are good enough.  It also avoids a multi-year commitment. I suspect everyone would be happy.

I would rather trade for JA Happ and relegate Gio to no more than one start in the postseason.
