Demote Williams to scout / roving adviser / anything. Hire a charter flight and bring Billy Gardner Jr., manager from Syracuse, which has won 10 straight, and Trea Turner, the SS who is hitting .312 at Syracuse. Gardner has done it with over-the-hill AAA players (except for Turner). Williams has a great lineup except for catcher and lead-off hitter.

Billy Gardner, Sr, was a tough 2B for the 1960 Senators...helped make them a respectable team. I trust that BG Junior could put some fire into the Nats. Turner might hit nothing for three or four games, but probably would out-hit everybody in a week or so.

Time for Matt to go

Letting Max hit and then taking him out the next inning? Pulling Fister after two flippin innings? Taking out Robinson, an offensive bright spot this game, in favor of Werth? I'm too tired to think of more but he could not have made worse moves tonight, he's getting worse along with his team :(

More importantly, it could not be more obvious that the team's confidence in him is completely shot.  Hard to perform your best when you have it in your head that the manager is going to choke the game away anyway.

Why won't reporters ask him why he didn't let Fister go longer?? He just said he let Max go back out there because he needed innings from him-hello you have a freaking starter sitting in your bullpen, HE could've given you innings :idiot:

If there's a need for a pitcher for tomorrow, there's this thing called a jet that can fly one in from Syracuse to replace somebody with an option.  Win the game and trust your GM to figure out the roster management.

No point in asking Matt. Time to ask Old Mr. Lerner. When he loses his temper, and I can imagine he is furious with this team, then Matt goes. If Rizzo is smart, he'll be the one to foire, or re-assign, Matt Williams.

I wasn't kidding (entirely): promote Billy Gardner Jr from managing Syracuse to ten straight wins. Bring Trea Turner with Garner. Find a place for Williams...he's over-organzied, so put him in the GM office someplace. If age didn't matter, I'd hire Jim Leyland, who is 70, but a good manager. Bring back John McLaren, who spit fire. Riggleman did more with less than Williams.

Look, my position on Williams is that he should have been fired after last season for removing Zimmermann in game 2 against SF, but I can see the argument why he was retained.  Fine.  This year however, has been a disaster, especially of late.  Last night was the last straw with the moves you mention above.  We are 16-24 in our last 40 games.  We are about to be below .500 for the season.  It ain't working.  If you really want to make a run at this year, he has to be sacraficed.  To appease Rizzo, allow him to convince his old Buddy Davey Johnson to come back for the last 40+ games.  One thing Johnson will do is instill confidence in the guys and has proven to be good with a pitching staff.  If Davey says no, I have no problem naming Knorr the interim manager, just as long as I no longer have to stomach Williams.

Fire Matt Williams for perpetually batting Bryce third and running the Nats prized free agent into the ground with an unprecedented work load

It's vintage Williams - letting a pitcher hit then pulling them the next inning is his signature move

This asshat says he looks at the strength of his players, not those of the opposition.

So he pulls Robinson who had been on base 3 times last night and has been killing lefties at a better than .400 clip. and he plays matchup with Werth who is hitting .175 against lefties this season?

I'd like to hear his 10 reasons for that stroke of genius.

It's amazing to me that they have not pulled the plug on Matt; if they were going to fire him after the year assume they would do now.  Which to me means Rizzo intends to bring him back unless pressured by the Lerners.

Like many of Rizzo's moves and what he has done for the franchise but seems too stubborn to alter his approach when needed.

Scherzer has no pitching load history to match what Mattie has asked of him this year.  Scherzer is getting pounded on the radio this morning but , ahem, as I have been saying since game 2 NLCS, Mattie does not know his players.

Look at the link below and search for a 4 start stretch that he has gone beyond 8 innings.  Look at Cy Young years of 2013 and 2014 and consider that given the 4 start load between 14 June and 2 July of this year - he may have a dead arm.  He has never been in a stretch like that and although I understand the need for his no-hit performance, the following games were not excusable - Philly and Atlanta could stand to face that well rested bullpen for the 6th or 7th innings.

It would not surprise me that Scherzer is doing what he can, as he has all year, to lead and suck-it-up, but the responsibility of managers and coaches is to help the TEAM be in a position to win.  Total failure here by the manager - again.
