I argued with somebody when Williams was picked over Knorr that this was the right move. Fresh blood.....no more Club Davey. Just feels like he is so slow to react to what seems like commonsense decisions. Plus, even if he's keeping that even demeanor on purpose to give off the sense of calm. I want to see a little more emotion. Get pissed.

No way Williams will be fired with that contract. Desmond will be benched before that happens.

Let me add, Rizzo is more likely to have Williams turnover pieces of his staff. New hitting and pitching coaches in '16 wouldn't be shocking at all.

Williams didn't even hire his staff

He is without a doubt the dumbest Manager in MLB and possibly one of the worst Coaches/Managers in D.C. sports history.

And that's the thing that makes it so galling.  They could have tweaked the bench coaching and added to the batting coach staff when they saw the same traits and issues emerge.  (This goes for the med staff as well.  I think getting some well-heeled Nats booster to donate an MRI machine might be a difference maker too given the current approach.)

This is what happens when you hire a manager solely on the basis that he is a "gritty" guy.

could have accomplished as much if we ate hi-fiber cereal.  That stuff is gritty, too, and we'd have the same result to take care of.

Let's face it - you have a better chance of seeing OldChelsea at Camden Yards than seeing Rizzo can Williams. The only way this happens is if Old Man Lerner is so desperate to win it all before he croaks and he basically forces Rizzo to pull the trigger.

since i was at the game and didn't hear the commentary last night, did anyone question matt's decision to have Gio hit in the 5th and start the 6th when he was already at around 90 pitches.

Mark Zuckerman        ✔ @ZuckermanCSN

Williams spoke to players. His message: "We're best when we're aggressive." Wants them to take extra bases, swing at pitches in good counts.

Great Matt, precisely how many strikeouts do you want Desmond to have???

Mark Reynolds likes that, he might be free of the strikeout record soon.

yeah, that was my first thought - so he wants everyone to play like Desmond at the plate and Harper on the basepaths?

you mean a team that routinely rack up 10 ks a night isn't aggressive enough?

You gotta give Pettibon a pass. Sure he was a complete failure as a HEAD coach.  As a defensive coordination, the best we've ever seen in DC.

Fister sitting in the bullpen is a very good sign that Williams is ready to do stuff now that he's in second place and everyone is freaking out.

Bochy and Mattingly are positively terrified.

so he's assigned to the bullpen now do you think?  they're speculating on the radio a little bit but apparently nothing has been announced by the team.

Might have been better for him to say "don't be afraid to ambush what looks like a pitching mistake."

They won't announce it today.  But he's available if he's sitting out there, and Strasburg is supposed to pitch tomorrow.
