Daren Willman @darenw

Bryce Harper's base hit last night vs Aroldis Chapman's 102.2 MPH fastball was the hardest pitch in PITCHfx era anyone has gotten a hit on.
Wow. Wow.

Fine.

It is an embarrassing comment to say you should hit a player because they had the nerve to talk back to a player to stick up for their pitcher.

Like I pointed out, if one of our players had done what Votto did he would be getting hailed as a tough beast that no one wants to freak with but since it was against us he's seen as a punk by Mr Fake tough and others.

but perhaps now that our enforcer (Strasburg) is out other teams may feel they can test the Nats' sack.

You hit him because your guy got hit and he's their best player

bryce should have said something along the lines of, "when you're seven games below .500 and your competitive window has closed with the current core, sometimes you look for a spark I guess."

Votto has always been an jerk, nothing new from him.

Votto was a total nag last night - your pitcher sucks and so does your team. Get over it. Nice job drilling the best player in the game right now because you suck. You're a real man now

If Zimmerman chirped at Votto after getting drilled by a 98 mph pitch - I would be very embarrassed - for Ryan Zimmerman

I think intentionally throwing a baseball at a batter is easily the stupidest thing in sports.

But I wouldn't mind seeing Votto get drilled today.

I have never been drilled by a 98 mph fast ball, I'm sure it hurts like a son of a nag. That said, would that really cause someone so much pain they can't play the next day? not being snarky just curious.

Well, it doesn't feel good.

I imagine if it was a game that meant something he'd play.

Got him square in the back, probably bruised and swollen and now stiff - could be hard to swing, particularly with as much torque as Bryce gets

It was at best 94. It shouldnt. More than likely Williams waz going to rest Harper at some point soon and the hbp gave him enough of a reason

Harper scratched with a sore back.

If Werth and Rendon are any indication, Harper will be back sometime in September.

I think throwing at a player intentionally is extremely stupid. Unless you're retaliating. That's just the way the game is played, unfortunately. Otherwise, you encourage other teams to do more of the same. You can't get bullied on the field.
