It's completely impossible to enjoy his season because of this trash team.

MW said Bryce Harper was hit on the quad above the knee. With Nats up, took him out to get ice on it.

Harper said he was hit on the knee. Will rest & see how it feels tomorrow. "It hurts. Pretty bad. ... 95 to the knee don't feel very good."

Glad Matt knows what's going on with his superstar.

when talking about giving monster extensions to Harper, who is potentially "one of the best to ever play the game", dos anyone think Albert Pujols' contract was a good one? Pujols is an all time great but that contract already looks bad.

You would have to compare Harper to the extension Pujols signed prior to the 2004 season (7yrs/$100M with a club option of $16M for the 8th season. Pujols finished in the top 10 in MVP voting every season and in the top 5 all but once, winning 3. Sounds like a great signing.

Any Harper extension would have to (a) end around his age-30 season or give him a player opt-out around that age, and (b) pay $30 million a year for his free agency years. I think that's the only way you get Boras to agree to something like that.

He's under contract next year for $5 million, so say you build in $10 and $15 million for his age-24 and age-25 seasons. That would be 4 more free agency years through his age-29 season, at $120 million? So 7/$150 million?

I think that's fair on both sides, but my guess is that Boras would ask for something like that with a player option and a bunch more years tacked on the back. If you took him through his age-35 season at $30 million per year, that 6/$180 added to 7/$150 so 13/$330 million total, with a player opt-out after the 7/$150 takes place.

And I think that's about as good as you're going to do. I would not be surprised if Boras wanted 15/$400 million.

Harper now up to 4.6 WAR with a season-high 220 wRC+.  Still no idea why his UZR is so low but I think that has to do with his avant garde style on defense and tendency to overthrow the cutoff man, allowing runners to second.  DRS likes him way more.

That being said, Harper is either getting a $200 million extension AT LEAST or a $400 million contract.  He and Mike Trout could even combine for $1billion on a payroll lol.

Offer him part ownership of the team in exchange for salary consideration.

Can we talk more about how awesome Harper is for us, instead of :panic: for three more seasons?
Agree. I'm not worrying until 2018.

When that day comes, if the Nats are competitive, still are located in a premiere city, and still have the richest ownership in baseball then I will like the chances of Harper remaining a Nat. It's not like he is playing for the Diamondbacks or Rockies.

Even having said that, possibly elite free agents like Mauer, Braun, Tulo, Felix Hernandez, and Stanton are signing with their home teams.

Not worried until 2018.

No way Harper gets less than Stanton.

Stanton only gets $108 million over the first six years. I think everything depends on structure. When does Bryce get his opt out, how backloaded it is, etc. I don't don't think he would end up getting much more in AAV but I think he'll get to keep more of it before opting out.

What can the Nats do when teams continually throw at Harper? Will the league step in?
He puts asses in the seats, if I were commissioner this crap would cease.

Teams do it because the Nats won't retaliate. It's time for our pitchers to take out their stars.
