For a comparison, by the end of May, 1959, Harmon Killebrew had hit 18 home runs. Although the old 154 game season started later -- about mid-April -- Harper also has 18 homers. He might hit a couple in the next two days, but most important: Harper is hitting at about the same power-level as Killebrew in Killer's "breakout" season, but hitting for a higher average, drawing more walks, and fielding well.

(Might have to compare Harper's walks to Eddie Yost's walks. If they are remotely similar, then the kid is playing at "Mickey Mantle level")

HR aren't included in BABIP for precisely this reason. From FG: "Batting Average on Balls In Play (BABIP) measures how often a ball in play goes for a hit. A ball is “in play” when the plate appearance ends in something other than a strikeout, walk, hit batter, catcher’s interference, sacrifice bunt, or home run."

I don't think it was intentional. But I would drill Votto just the same for running his mouth and for Cingrani talking smack on Twitter afterwards. Can't back down or other teams will do the same crap.

The Reds are awfully mouthy for a team in 2nd last place.

Remember last year when it was, I believe, the Mets closer who after closing a game did some ridiculous stare down and dance at our hitter(I think Desi)? We ended up pounding them the next day. And then of course there was the Simmons slide this year.
