So if we play Bryce Harper in RF and CF, does he get to hit twice?

See, that BABIP shows he's just being lucky.  If the outfielders would be properly positioned, like say 6-10 rows back of the field, lots of those shots would be caught.

I know you're kidding, but BABIP omits out of the park homers.

Except it's not based on merit. 4 Cardinals lead voting for their position. Those people vote "the right way."
I don't think fans vote on starting pitcher.

Wacha at 7-0 has the inside track.
Maybe if Matheny was the NL skipper. Right now, Greinke is the competition and I can't see Bochy starting a Dodger in that spot. To this point, MadBum can't quite get the nod over those two.

Also, if wins actually were a valid statistic for pitchers...

The fans in Missouri are really showing everyone how it's done.

Oh, then no-brainer.

"Harper singled off Chapman's 102 mph FB tonight. No other hitter appears to have a hit off a faster pitch in '15."

STFU Cingrani.  Let's Scherzer hit you square in the back at 98 and see how fast you move, ahole.

For a comparison, by the end of May, 1959, Harmon Killebrew had hit 18 home runs. Although the old 154 game season started later -- about mid-April -- Harper also has 18 homers. He might hit a couple in the next two days, but most important: Harper is hitting at about the same power-level as Killebrew in Killer's "breakout" season, but hitting for a higher average, drawing more walks, and fielding well.

(Might have to compare Harper's walks to Eddie Yost's walks. If they are remotely similar, then the kid is playing at "Mickey Mantle level")

Harper should take care of it himself by hitting home runs and walking to first

Agreed. Did anyone figure out what Votto was running his mouth about?

That too. If other teams want to think of Harper as the villain, he should embrace the role. :P

Or going cleats high into second, either way

I prefer they drill Votto since he ran his mouth.

That's one of the few times I don't think it was intentional. Guy had zero control. Walked the bases loaded. I'll have forgotten Cingrani's name by tomorrow and Votto is just an idiot. Move on, nothing to see.

Daren Willman @darenw

Bryce Harper's base hit last night vs Aroldis Chapman's 102.2 MPH fastball was the hardest pitch in PITCHfx era anyone has gotten a hit on.

HR aren't included in BABIP for precisely this reason.  From FG: "Batting Average on Balls In Play (BABIP) measures how often a ball in play goes for a hit. A ball is “in play” when the plate appearance ends in something other than a strikeout, walk, hit batter, catcher’s interference, sacrifice bunt, or home run."

I don't think it was intentional. But I would drill Votto just the same for running his mouth and for Cingrani talking smack on Twitter afterwards. Can't back down or other teams will do the same crap.

The Reds are awfully mouthy for a team in 2nd last place.

Remember last year when it was, I believe, the Mets closer who after closing a game did some ridiculous stare down and dance at our hitter(I think Desi)? We ended up pounding them the next day. And then of course there was the Simmons slide this year.

Don't ever poke the bear.
