I don't feel like trading a massive package for Price/Scherzer. If you can't win 90+ games with Strasburg/Gio/ZNN at the top of the rotation then the problem isn't the #4 and #5 pitchers.

This.  I just don't see the need to pull off a huge trade at this point.  The Tigers and Rays arent stupid.  The price will be really high for either.  I think you get more bang for your buck committing money to the young players, and paying market value for a 4 or 5 starter (as long as he isnt name Dan Haren).

Strasburg will command more than Scherzer. Jordan Zimmermann is no where near Scherzer's level. Even at 30, I'd rather have Scherzer for 7 years than JZ for two.

Trade for Scherzer or Price. Then flip JZ, TMO, and another prospect to the Angels for Trumbo and Kenderick. Instant upgrades on offense and pitching.

I wouldn't flip JZimm until next offseason.  If the Angels would give up Kendrick and Trumbo for JZimm and other pieces, Moore doesn't help them, then I might be swayed.  I'm not a big fan of Trumbo though but Kendrick is a clear upgrade defensively at 2B.

Is Kendrick that much better at 2nd than Espinosa (not talking about the bat mind you). Considering how long Rendon has been at 2nd, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt before I trade him away as part of the process of attaining Trumbo and Kendrick. And really, to me, it would take one helluva big deal for me to be willing to let Giolito go. I know he's unproven and coming back from TJ surgery. To be honest, the TJ surgery is a nonissue for the most part as opposed to his lack of experience. He profiles to be a #1 on just about any team and possibly a true Ace. You don't move kids like that w/o getting a HUGE return. A soon to be 30 year old lefty, as good as he is, doesn't cut it in my book. Especially when a bat is a bigger need.

Kilgore says the Nats looking at Javier Lopez.  Will it cost a draft pick?

Sign Boone Logan. Trade for Samardzija or sign A.J. Burnett. Trade for Hank Conger or sign John Buck. These moves would improve the team.

All that would be left after those moves would be to address CF/1B. I'd rather not sign Ellsbury and I wouldn't want to trade too much for Matt Kemp so I'd sign Rajai Davis to be our 4th OF and I'd go after Mike Napoli to put some more power in the lineup.

Good question, but who cares, as long as they take him off our hands...

And for those of you who still want Prince Fielder

if he was expensive two years ago (in the middle of his prime), he's even more so now that his contract jumps up a million a year

It's nice logic. But at the same time, it's absurd.

It's just money. Last year was the lowest OPS of his career and itnwas still 80 points higher than Laroche. Hell, it was higher than Laroche's career OPS. Fielder is only 29.

Now, I'm not saying to do it. I think last year is indicative of him getting lazy in the offseason. He was bigger coming in. He didn't hit well. He is a liability on defense. Plus he would prohibit us from moving Zimmerman to first. But he would be an improvement over what we have.

The article neglects to note that Santana is 2 yrs older than Greinke was last year.

It neglects a lot. Like the fact that Grienke had an ace type year after a poor year. And that if you went back to 2009, there is no comparison as Grienke was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Santana is more like Edwin Jackson.

Santana is more like Edwin Jackson.

From 2002 to 2010 - that's nine consecutive seasons - Santana was brilliant.

Problem is, he's been Missing in Action for three straight years now, and for that reason I wouldn't take a chance on him, not for anywhere near what he's looking for, which to me seems ridiculous.

But I don't get the comparison to Jackson, who has had a long, mediocre career.

Ervin Santana.  I'm guessing you are thinking "Don't mess with the" Johan Santana.

Yea, we're talking about the Royals' pitcher. That's what makes his contract request hilarious.

We may have stumbled onto the truth: I think Ervin Santana's agents were counting on rampant confusion that their client is 2004 Johan Santana
