Per John Heyman

Damn

Well there goes the idea for Scherzer.  I guess it's back to hoping one of Roark or Taylor Jordan can be enough.  It would really suck though if Fielder goes back to his old self in Arlington (likely) and Kinsler continues to just be meh.

Might as well keep Rendon now and look towards Chicago for Samardzija.  Less actual talent going away, and definitely more control with Samardzija.  Maybe Zimmermann gets that extension after all.  Might not be the worst thing ever to happen, lol.

This could free up money for Scherzer. HOwever, they still have issues on the left side of the infield and need another outfield bat. I could see Choo ending up in LF for the Tigers and taking over the leadoff spot.

Then they have to decide if they want to deal Scherzer for a long term SS/3B. Probably third as Iglesias' top value is at SS. There's still a chance at a trade . . .

We should have traded for Fielder, not Scherzer.  Again I say....no significant starting lineup upgrades.....hope you like the how the Braves ass taste!

Ignore the troll.

Did u watch any Nats baseball in 2013?  Oh, right....we sure did look good against the dregs in late August and September!  Until we played a good team (Cards) and couldnt score again.

They fixed half of that with the trade.  Cabrerra to first, and that frees up third for them to bring up Castellanos.

Castellanos may be worse than Cabrera at third.

At least now that the offseason is over we can focus on actual baseball being played again.

All signs point to Scherzer staying in Detroit.  As much as it pains me to say it, good for him.  I am with Slate on this one, he is a beast of a pitcher and I don't think he is going to turn into a pumpkin going forward.

For a real issue though, I'm not convinced in a back end of the rotation consisting of Taylor Jordan, Tanner Roark, Nate Karns or Chris Young.  I know everyone bashed on me about Samardzija earlier this year, but he has one more year of control than Scherzer, is probably at best a number 2, and could be had for less prospect pieces.  I know Chicago tends to overvalue him, but there might be a trade there.  I think Rendon is safe to stay, and a combo of Storen, A.J. Cole and Purke would be able to get Samardzija.

Anyone else surprised that Fernando Abad got DFA'd?  He was pretty good for us last year.  Not great, but good.

Mediocre/bad reliever is replaceable at this time of the year.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but Casey Stern brought up an interesting idea today on MLB network radio Inside Pitch.  He suggested the Nats trade Span to the Cards and sign Ellsbury.  Nats get a lead off hitter and the Cards get a 7 hole hitter with stellar CF defense.  Maybe get one of the Cards lefty relievers in return?

I'm assuming the thinking is he'd go to RF with Beltran gone.

Casey Stern makes no sense. If Span isn't good enough for the Nats, why would the Cards want him? Why wouldn't the Cards sign Ellsbury if he were the missing ingredient for a championship?  Stern needs to get more fresh air

Prince Fielder is a clone of his father, except that statisticslly Prince is falling faster than his dad did. Look at their stats.

Thus guy will be out of the league in 3-4 years. Do not want.
