OPSing .772 right now. Still low average but the power is there.

In his last 11 games, he's hitting .262/.283/.524
interesting. The BBs have kind of disappeared.

To be fair, I'm still really happy with the team overall; they're doing great, 5-2 at this stage of the road trip is fantastic, and I'm just annoyed because last night was a great job pitching by Ross and I only got to see the top of the eighth until Ryan made it out at the top of the 9th because my wife managed to wear me down with whining about control of the TV. :D
Get a second TV.

Craigslist has a For Sale Free section that includes free TVs. But they are not HD and are heavy to carry.

That's the normal solution, but we're housebreaking a puppy. She's young and gets anxious when people aren't around, so for now we're both staying in her confined area of the house to prevent anxiety accidents and to allow for intervention.

have you thought of blowing bong smoke in its ears?  that will relax it really fast.

OK, officially, let me say that would be bad.  We had a guy who used to do that with his big hound in college.  Now we'd say it was abuse.

I think 11 weeks old is below the legal limit, even in places like CO. :)  On the upside, she's okay with being behind the gates if she can see the person (like say in the kitchen at the end of the hall) now. Still tends to empty her bladder at the drop of a hat if you take a left into the bathroom, instead.  She'll figure out object permanence soon enough.

My basement tenant smokes a lot of weed, and his cat is super mellow.  Also huge...must be the munchies.

since he fell under the Mendoza line on May 11:  .289 / .337 / .482 with 4 HRs, he's on a pace to go north of 20 HRs this year.

I am actually pretty happy with Werth this season. After last season I was just hoping he would have a decent OBP and not be terrible everywhere else. He has been a not bad bat this season. He should finish with a positive WAR.

He seems to be much more comfortable in the 2 hole.

And his career #s as a DH are quite good(over .300 average). Will be helpful when we play in the World Series.  8)

We need to retire his number when he's done.

Werth is terrific both in his effect on the other players and his ability to come through with big hits.  I'd love to trim his hair a little but it's part of who he is, and apparently, his wife puts up with it.

Great baserunning last night, his purposeful slide into 3rd made the run happen.

If that was a slide going into second on a DP, he would've been called out. I didn't mind it, but I can see how some would say it was "dirty."

He slid right to the glove, a little deep but had his hand on the base without losing contact (i.e. going past the base too far).  He would have been safe with a conventional slide since he just beat the throw but when the ball struck him it created the run opportunity.  I was sitting just up from 3rd last night and we had a great view of the play, loved it.

Agreed.  I loved pushing the envelope which led to the first run last night.  The Cubs are one of the worst defensive teams out there.  Be aggressive and make them make the plays.

Plus, it showed that :w: erth is one of our only players with any moxie whatsoever.

Considering I looked at this deal as an overpay for a guy who had no desire to be a National other than the money, he's turned out really good for the Nats. In my opinion, and some others, that signing announced to baseball our franchise was ready to start competing. I always assumed it would be an albatross, but instead the Nats got big hits and clutch play from him in 2012 and what should have been All Star performances from him in 2013 and 2014. Last year was terrible, but if he has an OPS north of .750 these last couple seasons while still being an effective base runner and not bad glove then the end of this contract won't be half as bad as I thought it would be. If you assign 1 WAR as being worth $7 million per 1, he would need to add up to 18 WAR to be worth his contract. If between this season and next he totals 3 WAR then he would add up to 15.4 according to Fangraphs. And that is 2012 being worth less than 1 when I think that season over the second half he passed the eye test of setting the table for a loaded lineup that needed a leadoff hitter.

And he will always have the Game 4 walkoff to his name.

Imagine if Harper had his base running IQ.
