So that's potentially a $110 million contract. If they have money left to sign Prince, more power to them.

If he's willing to take less money to go to the Rangers, then eff him. What are the Nats to do?

I want him here but if he doesn't sign, I will not sweat it a bit.

Essentially. If they lose him to a lower bid it just wasn't meant to be, though it'll still be used as a sign that we weren't willing to spend since we didn't bid against ourselves

I don't see them doing it, but anything is possible of course. As Baseball is Life said, if we offer him something more and he settles for less with the Rangers, there's nothing we could have done and F him.

I'd honestly be shocked if the Rangers now went and spent 20+ a year on Fielder. It could happen, but it'd be a serious surprise from where I'm sitting.
They just spent nearly 112 million on Darvish. I just don't see how they can fork out another 150+ million for Fielder.

It's hard to believe but sometimes these guys to teams for less money. The other part of this is he might go to the Rangers so he can DH later. You know, after he weighs 300 pounds.

Another 10 million dollars doesn't seem to be much with the ridiculous amount of money changing hands, but Darvish has bonuses in his contract that could max out his entire contract at 70 million.

Bowden says Nats have to up dollar amount. Says offer isn't close to enough to get Fielder.

The Phillies have 103M committed to 5 players for 2013.  If the Phils can do it then the Rangers certainly can as well.  It's just a matter of whether or not they choose to.  They don't have a ton of long term money committed.

Bowden says Nats have to up dollar amount. Says deal isn't close to enough to get Fielder.

So Fielder will simply retire if the Nats don't up the ante and nobody else is there ready to pay him?

Okay.

Now this is going to start. The Nats should not bid against themselves.

If he wants to go to Texas for less money, then he doesn't really want to be here, does he? Then eff him.

He's not going to "build value" unless he loses 50 pounds and gets a new father.

Arlington, TX in July must be a blast when you are that big.

Well a 1 year deal would enable him to hit the market again in a year when it will presumably have more teams needing first basemen.    So it's not an entirely irrational decision if he gets a nice fat 1 year deal, and it may have nothing to do with choosing a team he likes or avoiding one he doesn't.

Boras over played his hand yet again. I don't care where Prince signs anymore, I just want a deal done. This has been dragging on for eternity.

You would not believe how hot it gets down on the field by the time batting practice begins.
