No. Said he'll go to Texas short term to build value.

Sorry, who said?

But how much more money do we have to pay vs. Texas. Doesn't he at some point just become not worth it.

How come you never say that about Rizzo. You know, the guy who is actually involved in the negotiations. It seems you never have problems doubting him.

because Bowden is paid to break stories and Rizzo is allergic to leaks until the ts are crossed (which is how it should be)

When has Rizzo even commented on putting a contract out to Prince? How could I possibly doubt him when he hasn't commented on it?!?

I mean in general. You always take Bowden's word as gospel but doubt everything Rizzo says and does.

Why do you have so much hate in your heart for Rizz?

You would not believe how hot it gets down on the field by the time batting practice begins.

I saw a Rangers game last September. Bearing in mind it was the second weekend in September: at game time, the temperature was 101. By the end of the game, the temperature dropped to 94. It was anguish.

I too believe Bowden before Rizzo. And I actually like Rizzo and don't much like Bowden.  Bowden's job relies on his credibility with the public. Rizzo's doesn't.

Quote
John Morosi: Sources say #Rangers unlikely to outbid #Nationals for Prince Fielder. But as I wrote earlier this week, Texas has surprised us before.

I love Rizzo the Scouting Director, still not sold on Rizzo the GM.

But I don't remember a time I've ever said I believe Bowden over Rizzo. Mainly because Rizzo usually never officially  comments on a subject.

Beat writer for dallas.com was just on Sportscenter. He said Boras/Rangers would have to get "really creative" to sign Fielder. Read: "'ain't no more money, fatboy."

And, I forgot, they need to sign Hamilton this offseason or he goes FA next yext year, if I heard that correctly.

Yeah, I remember reading if they signed Fielder, they'd most likely lose Hamilton, don't think they want that.

It's not just Hamilton, they probably lose Napoli as well.

Yeah, I'm sure Captain Fatass with his 35+ bombs and .350+ OBP couldn't help out this team.  Enjoy the RISP and strikeout brigade.

Wait I'm lost.  That quote is directed at the Rangers saying they can't afford him.  Not the Nats, who can and should sign Fielder.

Rizzo  did seem to officially disavow any interest in Fielder. Sure, you can apply differing interpretations to what he said, but at best it was disinformation. I don't fault him for that, it is not his job to be truthful with us.  But I don't believe much of what he says. Doesn't make me like him any less.

Sure, but Whining is Life was taking a jab Prince's weight, which is idiotic.  The Nats should sign Fielder.

Got it.  Heyman via MLB Hot Stove thinks the Rangers, Nats and O's are the potential landing spots for Fielder.  Rangers need to come up with lots of money really fast for Fielder and are willing to let Hamilton walk.  Not shocking, but if the Rangers and Nats go into a bidding war, the Nats should have monetary advantage.  But that means they have to spend.  I hate it when it comes down to the Nats deciding to spend money.

Why can't the Rangers sign Fielder, Hamilton, Napoli & Kinsler?   Napoli & Kinsler aren't getting anywhere near the massive FA contracts that guys like Werth & Holliday received.

Guess how much salary they have committed to 2014?  About 18M before Darvish and probably around 36 after his contract.  And Beltre's option comes off the books after 2015.  They have a ton of cash available with almost no long term contracts and a lot of young talent that won't be getting expensive for years.  And we all know that their massive TV deals starts after the 2014 season.

The bottom line is the Rangers can afford to do whatever they want.  If they choose not to sign Fielder that is one thing.  But they have the financial resources to do exactly what the Phillies have done.  The Phillies have 103M committed to 5 players in 2013 and that doesn't even include Cole Hamels.  The Rangers are a financial powerhouse with new owners who are willing to spend.
