If we don't sign Fielder, I don't see much point in watching games that Strasburg doesn't start. The front office is basically telling me to check back in two years.

You have got to be kidding.

Not a fan of JZimm? Or a top-5 bullpen? Or a team above .500?

Does it make you feel good to make fun of others?

Or Beast Morse or BHarp or Gold Glove 3B.

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he's kidding.

Or Ryan Zimmerman, or Gio, or a playoff run?

With the offense currently constructed the way it is... I don't see a playoff run in 2012 coming, unfortunately.

2013 with a bit more tweaking... and I think the Nats really have something.

I am going to start keeping track of the names you call me. They're funny. I haven't heard that word since middle school.

I see 88 and a last-series elimination from the wild card... that's if we shore up the bench, though.

I see 86 and contention until the last week. But if we sign Fielder, I see a WS win and him bringing peace to the the Middle East by the all-star break.

RT @jonmorosi: The #Nationals are still viewed by many in the industry as the frontrunners to sign Prince Fielder.

I think we can compete either way, Fielder just gives us a greater margin for error- with him, Zimm can get injured, Morse can regress, or harper can get stuck in the minors and we'd still be in it, without him, any of those sink us

Right, that Nats don't outbid Texas. Tx is the first choice. If they back out, then it is up to other teams to outbid the Nats. Fielder's a quality bat, but he is not Pujols. There's better ways to spend a ton of money than locking it up in a power bat at 1B in the National League.

He's crazy to settle for a 1-2 year deal. TX has to be out.

Not kidding.

Huge fan. But I'm not wasting my money and time on a team that could win now but refuses to because they're cheap.

We're not going to the playoffs in 2012. Not if we don't sign Fielder. Strasburg will be done mid August. I seriously don't see Wang making it through the season. So the back end of rotation is going to be Lannan, Detwiler, and .... ? Not confidence inspiring.

On top.of that, the offense will still suck. We're still going to he tops in strikeouts. The wont.bench.Desmond, despite the fact that he's awful. Morse will regress. Werth will cave under the pressure. Zimmerman will just get fed up with it all and decide he's not coming back. Harper will struggle a lot, at first, like he always does.

Basically, theyre telling me we're not ready yet and won't be until Rendon, Purke and Goodwin get here. So yea, back to the two year plan. Glad they locked up Gio. But frankly, its just wasting years if we don't get him more than two runs per game.

Like I said, I'll go to opening day because I missed it four years running and I'll tune in for Strasburg. Maybe Harper's debut. But beyond that, this season seems pointless to me without Fielder. We already proved we can play .500 ball. Five games above it is five games out of the wild card.

Kilgore unscores what signing Fielder could mean for the Nationals' chances of upgrading their take from the MASN deal:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/wizards/nationals-negotiations-with-masn-will-have-huge-impact-on-franchise/2012/01/18/gIQA26VD9P_story.html?wprss=rss_sports

One potential development, though, could add to the Nationals’ argument. The Nationals have been in talks with free agent first baseman Prince Fielder, a power hitter who would make the Nationals a contender. If the Nationals added Fielder, it could boost their desirability as a television entity.  “I think it would,” Zimbalist said. “Somebody like Fielder offers the possibility of not only the team being more competitive, but generating excitement in his own right.”

Slateman, years ago that's what the Yankees said about A-rod.  They didn't WIN a World Series for years after his signing!  He was supposed to be the piece to enable them to win.

You never know what's going to happen!  That's why they play the games!
