the only times I can think of players with guarenteed deals deferring iswhenthe interest rates offered were furled by madoff returns

Just random thoughts.
You guys are totally right though; that'd only cause a slippery slope.

Oh well.

This isn't directed at you, but if that were the case you might as well find another team to follow if you care about winning.

Uh-uh, no way we just sit back and let local baseball be ruined by pikers, not after we fought so long and hard to get it back.  I prefer the embarrass them to within an inch of their life route and make it miserable for them to be cheap jokers who swiped a free stadium from the city and then didn't hold up their end of the bargain.  We're creative, and we've had evidence that we've gotten under their skin before, so if they really want to put budgets above the fan base, they'll earn every bit of what's coming to them.

I thought the Nats were 4-5 odds to sign Prince. Looks like we've been had again.

basically he makes the case for the Dodgers signing Prince.

The Lerners fielded the 2008 and 2009 teams, didn't fire StanK after begging Philly trash to overtake the stadium, and have never apologized for anything they've ever done.   To get embarrassed you have to care and they obviously don't.  Not that I don't agree with you, because I do, but they don't care.

We're creative, and we've had evidence that we've gotten under their skin before, so if they really want to put budgets above the fan base, they'll earn every bit of what's coming to them.

Curious - what are you referring to?  Personally, I'd like to get the seat right behind Mark Lerner for the entire season and heckle the freak out that nitwit needledick.

Fielder's salary is almost a whole parking garage or low-rise apartment block...outrageous!

What evidence and when? Not being skeptical, I'd just like to remember so I can relive the moment...

Be sure to attend Natsfest 2012, which will be held in the middle of the fifth during the exhibition game against the Red Sox.

LANC has already started typing up statements defending their boys honor when Fielder doesn't sign.

Even with Fielder, this year's payroll wouldn't be a $100 million.

Read some of Mark L's postings from the past couple of years.  He has been very reactive to criticism from many fronts, whether it's the ongoing payroll questions and willingness to spend or something as tangential as the foot-dragging to complete the Nationals baseball academy.  He really got bent on of shape on that one, and he also went on long rants against media types that didn't understand the way the Nationals' plan was progressing.  He's not one that's going to be able to sit still under a constant drumbeat of LAIAC.  Even if the braintrust is too dense to get the clue to invest in the Nats and let the fans and local businesses do their part, they'll at least have to endure to be sneered and scoffed at in many local circles for their selfish and idiotic actions.

Knowing the Lerners, you know they will set up stations so fans can get Red Sox autographs too.

you know JCA will be there pushing little kids out of the way so he could get Youkilis autograph

Where does Mark Lerner post?  The baseball academy costs what, $5m?  Why drag your feet on something like that if you're as charitable as many on here seem to think the Lerners are.  I mean, did it really take me buying 10 Lastings Milledge singed baseball at $5/each to help them make that happen?

From Olney..."The Dodgers might be able to get Fielder for seven years and $175 million, or maybe eight for $192 million. Add Fielder to their lineup, and they could contend for the NL West championship in 2012. "

For that contract they can have him.  Prince would be a great addition and make us a contender. His agent is also Scott Boras and I'm sure wont accept anything less than a 6/7 year contract that is a huge gamble.  The amount we offered can only be speculated.  In a 7 year contract, he will cripple the team financially and become what Alfonso Soriano is to the Cubs.

Or he'll stay a solid hitter and have a trade clause so come his 6th year he can go to an AL team and DH.

Lead them to back-to-back playoff appearances and fill the stands?  If he signs with the Dodgers I look forward to seeing how many playoff appearances they have compared to the Nats.

Not really sure how signing Fielder cripples this team given the income levels of the metro area but whatever.  I guess we better enjoy third place while it lasts.

Don't assume anything until the Fileder deal is done, wherever he lands. Everything else -- the rumors, the inside tweets -- everything is just part of the daily sports-entertainment industry. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
