We have two hours left. You heard it here first!

I hope you're right.

And we're not desperate anymore like we were last year with Werth.  So I hope the Nats don't get taken this time around.  I bet Boras an company might be getting nervous as we get closer to the Darvish deadline which would take one more big suitor out of the running.

So have there been any new rumors besides that one guy a couple hours ago with the 7 year talk? While I like the smokescreens to an extent, I also hate them. We need some sourcessss.

when you see a "Golden Corral Coming Soon" sign across the street from the stadium, you'll know he's just about signed.

They will just reopen the ones that closed due to Livan not coming back.

Anyone see Gammons on MLB Network hot stove tonight?  I only caught part of it, but Gammons and the panel discussed "can the Nats afford to keep RZ if they sign Fielder." Gammo and the panel thought it would be unlikely prior to RZ hitting free agency.

Makes you wonder if the delays in negotiating with RZ's agent is because they want the Prince issue resolved first.

RZ extension probably pretty low on the priority list this offseason - signing Buerhle, looking for a CF, Gio trade, Prince Fielder, trading LaRoche.

Rightly or wrongly, the Zim extension talks may have been lower on the teams to-do list.

let's say zim signs an extension (7 years/$130 million) and prince is signed (7 years/$160 million)

what would our payroll be?

Katsen on Nats chances of getting Prince

Quote
"The answer will always be money no matter where he goes, that's just inevitable and there's nothing with that." Kasten, who served as the Nats' president from 2006-2010 when he abruptly resigned his position, told the hosts, "Every time I've heard anything about it in the past from people there, it doesn't seem likely," the Nationals will sign Fielder, "because that's not the kind of player they wanted or were looking for, for all the negative possibilities. It's just not what they wanted, but that could change, and I've certainly seen the stories written in the last few days."

Here's a little bit of me dreaming, but I thought of this for a Prince contract. He wants a 10 year contract? Give it to him (and you know what, give him a couple opt outs too).

Year One 26.5M
Year Two 26.5M
Year Three 27M
*Player Opt Out Option*
Current Contract Sub-Total
3 Years/80M
Year Four 22M
*Player Opt Out Option*
Current Contract Sub-Total
4 Years/102M
Year 5 14M
Year 6 12M
Year 7 10M
Year 8 10M
Year 9 10.5M
Year 10 10.5M
Total Contract
10 Years/169M

Fielder gets an option to cash in after (hopefully) doing well and getting a lot of money on a (relatively) short term contract. HE would have two options to opt out after year 3 or year 4. If he chooses not to opt out then he will be paid at a lower, yet steady and safe rate throughout the rest of his career (hopefully by this time the NL would potentially have a DH, but if not an overall rate of 16.9M for 10 years isn't bad).

Just a mind spew, probably an awful idea that no one likes, but with all the anticipation I felt the need to post something.

EDIT: Or a simple six years/25 per, that works too!

Given what's been going on, I'll believe it when I see it.  6 years is okay...

SS Desmond (/lombo)
CF Werth
3B Zimmerman
1B Fielder (L)
LF Morse
RF Harper (L)
2B Espinosa (S)
C Ramos

not the best line-up in baseball but it could be good enough for postseason play in Washington.

IMO, that is pretty comparable to the Cards' lineup last season...I wonder if that was good enough?

Actually, my co-worker's friend's second cousin's ex-girlfriend, who once bumped into Lerner while shopping at Tyson's Corner, just tweeted that they will officially announce a 10-year, $350m deal tomorrow.  Woohoo!

Whose is better?

the 3-6 could be the best (with espinosa and ramos as one of the better 7/8 hitters in the league) ... it really depends on if desmond can handle the leadoff spot and werth can bounce back.

yeah the cards was good enough and pujols had a pujols year.  but our top of the line-up needs to improve on the crummy OBP from last season.  and we need to cut back on the k's in RISP this year.

Gammons was incredibly ill-informed about what he was saying tonight.  He completely ignored the new tv money the team is going to get in addition to starting with a rock bottom payroll.  There's a lot of room for payroll growth.
