Here's a little bit of me dreaming, but I thought of this for a Prince contract. He wants a 10 year contract? Give it to him (and you know what, give him a couple opt outs too).
Year One 26.5M
Year Two 26.5M
Year Three 27M
*Player Opt Out Option*
Current Contract Sub-Total
3 Years/80M
Year Four 22M
*Player Opt Out Option*
Current Contract Sub-Total
4 Years/102M
Year 5 14M
Year 6 12M
Year 7 10M
Year 8 10M
Year 9 10.5M
Year 10 10.5M
Total Contract
10 Years/169M
Fielder gets an option to cash in after (hopefully) doing well and getting a lot of money on a (relatively) short term contract. HE would have two options to opt out after year 3 or year 4. If he chooses not to opt out then he will be paid at a lower, yet steady and safe rate throughout the rest of his career (hopefully by this time the NL would potentially have a DH, but if not an overall rate of 16.9M for 10 years isn't bad).
Just a mind spew, probably an awful idea that no one likes, but with all the anticipation I felt the need to post something.
EDIT: Or a simple six years/25 per, that works too!
