@ricandersen: Source tells me the Nationals are signing Prince Fielder; 7 years at 23 million/year, plus incentives. #MLB #Nats

he's some guy who works at the House of Representatives.

unsubstantiated rumors of a 7/163m deal are floating around the twittersphere.

I hope not.  I am going to be  disappointed if we go beyond five years and VERY disappointed if we go beyond six.  Five I can live with.

At that salary 7 isn't awful, I was anticipating 5 or 6 years at 26.5 or so with a Fielder opt out after 3.

I can live with 7 years.  He'll be good for the next 4 years at least.  Anything past that would be gravy.

Five (or even six) with opt out after three sounded good because it would provide incentive for him to work hard those three years in hopes of a bigger deal after only three years when he's still (relatively) young.  With a seven year deal the opt out after three is meaningless.  No way he opts out after three, with four fat-pay years left. So don't expect any special effort from Prince, the first three years or after. He'll just keep getting fatter and fatter.

He recommended selling high on Morse.  With the giants in need of offense perhaps a deal based around morse and bumgarner?  I know straight up that probably is unequal but that can be ironed out.

EDIT: or maybe to the cards for John Jay and other(s)

pwnt.

But seriously, I wish he'd hurry and sign somewhere.  This crap is getting old.  If I were the Nats, and had made an offer, I'd be miffed if he's waiting for Darvish so he has an opportunity to go to Texas instead.
