Yep, seems like they really wanted to stick it to us for the Ramos/Capps trade. I'm glad we didn't pull that trigger.

Will you continue to say that in September when Storen has six more saves and we're still running Ankiel/Bixler out there in CF?

That's probably the last thing you want the closer to do.
how exactly did he win the game today? by giving up the tying run?
Lol exactly.

A closer that wins games means he's also constantly blowing leads and being bailed out by the offense.

I don't want that... and I assume you don't either.

:)

Minty just wants wins, he doesn't care how we get them ...

Why even have minor leagues then?

And note that prospects may in some cases have upside beyond the comparitor solid MLB player you like.

I'm not sure what your first question has to do with what I'm saying...

And that's undoubtedly true about upside, but it sounds like there wasn't much upside in the package the Astros received in that deal.

Actually, it's the first thing I want ANY player to do.

Even a closer?  You would rather he blow the save so he gets a chance at a "win"?

Of course I want a closer to close out the game.  Storen does that extremely well too.

Yes, because trading Storen, Bernadina and Lombo for Span is a BAD trade.

Besides, Bernie is going to be the primary centerfielder and I'm fine with that for the rest of the year.

Well, it's not like this is the ONLY opportunity to get a CF between now and the start of 2012.

And really, this team isn't going anywhere this year anyway.

if bernie is going to be the CF the rest of the year, why was he sent down instead of DFA'ing ankiel?

bixler seems to be the new utility guy

I actually agree with Knorr.

He'll be back as soon as the 10 days are up.

I think there was a deal in place for Span then the Twins got greedy and upped the Anti. Bernie will be back when his 10 days are up.

He was playing bad enough to be sent down in the first place.

I think he was sent down because there was a deal going down, then the Twins got greedy. I'm certain he'll be back up after the 10 days are up. In the meantime, doesn't hurt to be sent down to work on stuff I guess.

I'm not sure what logic you "destroyed" once before, regarding how many prospects you need to compensate for a proven major leaguer.  Or, as the case may be, two months of a proven major leaguer.

The best path to prosperity for the Nats is going to be to develop a strong core of in-house talent - draft, develop and promote, and then augment with select free agent fill-ins.  When you have players who aren't a key part of the future - such as Hairston or Marquis - it's a good thing to deal them as the Nats did to get select prospects.

Ray would have rather the Nats just keep the two guys in hopes of eking out an extra win or two over the remainder of the season.  To me, when it's obvious the team is "done" for the year, i.e. no longer in the running for even a distant wild card chance, then it's time to begin adjusting with the intent to improving the team in the next year(s).

Bixler probably or maybe they let Cora go. I don't know

I'm just speculating. I would be very surprised if Bixler/Ankiel is the CF they go with for the rest of the year.

So, is it official that the annual tryouts are on?  Bixler?  Ankiel?

I would think that's a huge factor in all of this. Out 2 months with a concussion is a huge red flag for me.

That's what I was thinking. Had Span been on the Twins roster, and playing this deal probably gets done.

bixler replaces hairston as utility guy

they had a choice between bernadina and ankiel and they chose ankiel and they love cora

i was honestly really just hoping we'd move desmond so they could call up lombardozzi

Does Ankiel have options though?

And yeah, I really wanted that too. Lombo will be a September call up though, don't you think? With Peacock and Millone? I certainly hope so.

we hope so but you know how this organization likes to call up AAAA players instead of prospects and just ride out the year
