Happy birthday, Nationals style

Glad I wasted $10 in parking, $25 in food, $40 in tickets, three hours of my life sweating my balls off and most of my birthday for the worst 9th inning of 2011 to take place.

Nats situational hitting is "Pathetic" according to Ray Knight.

I'm sure he'll be replaced by tomorrow's broadcast.

Time for someone in the media to call out the Lerners. This is a disgrace.

Happy birthday, Nationals style

I almost bought a Phillies hat just for today's game.  I think from this point forward I'm puttign all of my Nats hats in storage along with my assless chaps and Tommy Lee speedos.  I can't believe Matt freakING Stairs is still on this time and getting at bats.

Riggleman says he told Burnett after the game: "The ball is coming out of your hand a lot better than what the results say." Then said Burnett is "throwing the ball good".  :lmao:

Also, "you can't control where the ball goes when it's hit on the ground".

I guess that kind of screws up Rizzo's pitch to contact mantra, eh?

Evidently, you have to sign something saying you will not ask tough questions.

We blew the best chance we had to sneak a win out of this series.  They're going to crush us for the next two games.

Oh man, I wish I could have asked a follow-up to that: "Do you think Dan 'MetRX' Uggla will have mercy on im or snap him like a twig?"

Fun game... bad outcome. I really hate Philly fans.

I have to question three things though:

1. Why do you bring in a struggling Burnett vs Utley, Howard, Ibanez. Yes I understand - its matchups. I would've brought in Coffey or Slaten though. Both have been pretty decent as of late so I would say let them continue it.

2. Why did Cora go home with no outs? I like Cora > Hairston for now and I am even advocating that we lead him off playing short for awhile. But that play was completely boneheaded. Was it Bo or was it Cora? I mean is a man on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out really that bad??? Espinosa's pop up would've gotten the tieing run in either way.

3. Why... WHY do you pinch run Morse with Bixler AND bring in Stairs on the same play. I get it: we want speed on the base paths.... but did Riggleman forget that Morse is one of, if not, our best hitters? I mean batting around the lineup to get to him is a problem in itself but seriously, why do that. I would think Morse would score on a single from second.

He threw a couple of the best pitches that I have ever seen. Plus a lot of truly insane ones.

It was pretty clear that Burnett had no movement on his pitches. As soon as I saw that, I would have pulled him for Coffey.

The Bixler for Morse pinch running bothered me, but not as much as using Stairs rather than Bernadina.

On the Cora thing, in the post game presser, Riggs indicated that he thought Cora made the right decision. Maybe the ball didn't get as far away from the pitcher as it looked like it did when it hit his leg. I can believe that.

It's true that Rizzo's roster under the constraints of the Lerners doesn't make it easy on a manager. But Riggleman doesn't help himself with his management style. It's all about push-button management, worrying about guys getting playing time, double-switches for no reason, etc. No accountability (unless your name is Morse, then he has no problem telling the public you didn't do your job when you fail at the plate despite other successes.) He double switches to bring in Burnett to face the lefties, which only makes sense if you plan to have him pitch the next inning, which doesn't necessarily make much sense anyway. But regardless, this team is awful and not going anywhere, so it is a chance to make guys acknowledge their mistakes. When you bring in a situational reliever, he needs to execute. Issuing a walk out of the gates should be deemed unacceptable. I'd applaud him if he immediately yanked the pitcher there. There's been way too many times when he should have done that in the past to set a standard.

And yesterday leaving Maya in to face the lefty after two walks, then bringing in Slaten to face the righty? So stupid.

Riggleman is like all the bad of Frank Robinson without any of the good.

I have to assume he is the manager they want because he will be an apologist for the lineup, keep all the crappy veterans happy, and not make any waves with the FO over the crappy roster they assembled.

Tough stuff.

But I'm having a hard time disagreeing with any of it.

This afternoon's match was typical of this season...rhe matches have been competitive to the final out, instead of the situation of past seasons when the home side are staring up at a 3-nil deficit the first time they come up to bat.

...but this has to have been the largest opposition turn-out ever, in proportionate terms - 34,789 announced attendance and something like 2/3 Phillies supporters.

Only one way to shut those lot up - winning - and today it almost worked.
