Newsday is reporting Smoltz/Mets are picking up talks.

Random, but would anyone have interest in Eric Byrnes?

Hes confusing. It seems when he plays more than 120 games he plays mediocre. What happened in 2005? Why did he play on 4 different teams? He has decent fielding, especially in left but his bat is pretty awful it seems. I dunno, I wouldn't be opposed but we already have some outfielders AND we need to get MI/SP help first.

Don't blame you.  Pretty sweet watching Caps for free whenever I want, and going to a couple /three games a year.
Found out I get the Avalanche as my "local team" on directv.  That's the only hockey I don't have to pay extra for.  I turned the game on and didn't recognize any of the names...

If we are going to get one of the older FA starters, I hope we get Pedro.

Nope.  I mean the side that can't play a lick of defense.   Well, okay and the "not jerkface" side as well....

Heyman says Wang will land on either the East or West Coast... Nats still have a shot then!

Being a lifelong East-coaster, I think it would be weird to live in the mid-west. Being landlocked just seems strange. Maybe Wang is weird like me.  8)

Yes... but it's better to be part of the 2/3 than be part of the 1/3 that's been eliminated.

Per MASN's Jeff Wolfson, Nats are going after Joe Nelson.

I had a nightmare last night. FLop returned to D.C. when Hudson signed with the Mets.  :spaz:

The Nationals still want a veteran starting pitcher, but don't expect general manager Mike Rizzo to look hard for one on the free-agent market. In fact, the club is waiting for free-agent pitchers to come to them at the right price.

So don't look for the Nationals to break the bank for pitchers such as right-hander John Smoltz or left-hander Jarrod Washburn.

"During the early part of the winter, we made sure we got things done," Rizzo said. "I made sure we had a Major League veteran starter [Jason Marquis], Major League catcher [Ivan Rodriguez] and improved the bullpen [Matt Capps, Brian Bruney and Eddie Guardado]. We took care of that.

"I think during the second half of the offseason we are going to let a little bit of that come to us. We do think there is a surplus of people out there ... that we are talking about. There is nobody ... out there on the pitching market that is a difference maker."

Joe Nelson signed with Boston today on a minor league contract.

From rotoworld.com
Red Sox signed RHP Joe Nelson to a minor league contract.

Nelson posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 40 1/3 innings for the Rays last season before the club designated him for assignment in September. He might have trouble cracking Boston's Opening Day roster but he's a fine emergency reliever should an injury happen on the depth chart above him.

Do you really want John Smoltz or Jarrod Washburn though?

They didn't mention Bedard/Pedro/Wang.

MLBTR:

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports names the D'Backs, Cubs, Reds, and Nationals are teams monitoring free agent starter Kris Benson. Benson didn't pitch much in the last three seasons due to rotator cuff surgery.

I really hope we don't get him.

On the plus side... if he ever cheats and he's with the Nats... his wife will come in and screw the entire clubhouse.
